After years of playing withn race carsI have seen only 2 failures of the clutch slaves. If you guys down under want I could find you some part and put them on a nice slow boat
or plane for very little.E-mail me and let me know.

On both Datsun 1000 and 1200's, LHD have a hydraulic clutch and RHD have a cable. It's because the clutch arm is on the right side of the tranny and you'd need a really long
cable on a LHD.

I find the cable clutch setup perfect. My mini has a hydraulic clutch and it pisses me off something cronic. The system can leak (mines doesnt), you have to keep the level up, you can get
air in the system etc etc. Mind you the gearbox in the Minis have a reputation for not being too crash hot. I love the old Datto 4 speeder. I have swapped over all my running gear into my
other coupe and just threw the clutch cable on and away I went. A slight adjustment and shes perfect. The gearbox is a hell of a lot smoother and the throw it much less than the mini.
Thats part of the reason the Mini is goin up for sale.

Cheers
Simon

Yeah, just about all the A series' datsuns got a cable clutch in Australia (there may be some excepetions). In my opinion they don't have a nice 'feel' like hydrualic does. They do the
job though.

This is a bit confusing? Just about every Datsun ever sold in the USA (including the 1200) has a hydraulic clutch. What on earth did they give you guys down under? Cable? Z-bar? To
answer the question, a hydraulic clutch would be a piece of cake if you got a few choice parts from a hydraulic (USA?) 1200.

All of my clutch arms have been on the left side of the tranny. You say they are on the right. I will now assume that the clutch arms on the trannies are different from LHD
to RHD, is that correct? I am learning that there is a world of differences from LHD and RHD 1200s.

All of the L Series, A Series, Silvia CA18, SR20 gearboxes I have seen in Australia, have all had the clutch fork coming out the right side. (RHD Drivers side). When I was in
the US, that wasn't something I chose to look for. How interesting.

something you've gotta remember between US and Aussie 1200's with the clutch is that the exhaust runs down the drivers side on the US models which makes it just that bit harder
to run a cable clutch down the left side if the arms are on the left side.

hence an hydraulic clutch. ease of flexibiltiy.

So what? At least we got a 5 speed 240Z!

Just kidding.

The two countries tend to always use different diff and gearbox
arrangements.
