the guy doing the test told me that I should either try a new cat converter or replace the 2.5 inch (65mm) exhaust system with a 2.25 inch (57mm) system

cool! progress!

my 2.5inch system blew over 100

exhaust place made a cheap 2inch system to JUST pass the 96dB and get engineers, then 2.5 goes back in

Get a choking cat and a 2inch diff back maybe to drop resonance. But piggy got his to pass as 3inch almost I think.

Either way make it flanged and you can swap either of them out

Yeah, I just had a look at online prices $400 just for the cat - yikes

I think a smaller diameter pipe may be the go

checked the cat ... it is actually in good order - the inside is full of the stuff you would expect

so now have to find another legal way to make it quieter

in the mean time I replaced the front shockers got some pedders gas for $250. Also replaced the bailey channel felt rubbers that the windows wind up on. replaced all the rubber brake hoses and fixed a rocker cover oil leak.

Holidays are over and i have run the car for about 200 kms on a vic roads permit. still smells a bit from burning off oil and stuff but going better.

a few things to finish and tidy up including some minor coolant leaks, the noise factor and too much play in the steering wheel. also the speedo decides when it wants to work and when it wants to sit on 70 kms - i need to recheck the wiring and the cluster (hopefully don't have to take out the dash yet again)

Maybe we can both hire 1200rallycars 'quiet' exhaust to get us through the noise test once he's put his 2.5 inch system back on?

Great to here your on the road..even if it's on a permit.
