OK, now I am confused, after reading the TCVAS section in the wiki it states the opposite to your post above DD?

"Electrical "Top Switch" screwed into the side of the tranmission (left side, near the bell housing). It is closed in top gear (allowing regular advance), open in all other gears and nuetral (disabling advance)"

Can you clarify?

by dattodude on 2011/1/30 20:36:19 I always thought it would be a good idea to wire up the 5th gear switch to a sign in the back window that reads...'hammer time'. Also, you could wire it in series with the automatic kickdown switch on the accelerator so when you have both flat to the floor in 5th.. the sign lights up. I grew up before I had a chance to make the sign..

but since when did mc hammer ever go out of fashion. Cant touch this .............. cant touch this.

and then wash it down with some funck cold madina. you know what im saying.

can the 5th gear switch be modified so it can be used as a reverse switch? is there a solder on adjustment that can be used, it seems more compact than the reverse switch, so if possible, could use it as a reverse switch instead when installed in the reverse hole, not top one.

you COULD use the top gear switch as a reverse switch on a 60A 5 sp box IF you used a relay. But they are the same size so it would be a complete waste of effort.

however, I think, if you were chasing a replacement reverse switch for your 60L 5 sp box you could use the top gear switch from a
56 A 4 sp box.

see Mal thats what I was trying to say this morning, the switch could only alter the timing if it closed a solenoid on the manifold, but yours wasn't connected anyway.. :)

Good catch. I was mistaken in the explanation above.
So in this case, one should either:
* Wire up the switch
or
* Connect the distributor hose directly up to the carburetor
Emission Controls

The 1978 B210 works the same way (Canada/USA)

How does the Aussie ute work?

was this just a post adr27a thing on aussie stuff, or if not, when did it start?

(I should bloody look under my car once in a while!)

dattodude - if I win tattslotto I'll pay people to install that in your car. And if you try and sell it, I'll get ninjas to install it in the next car too! :)
