hows the progress carps?

hey guys i am half way through making the first set... i'm sorry i have taken awhile to do them just haven't been able to do them at work as i'm not ment to be working with a broken leg.
hope to have them done by the end of the week i will post up pic's soon and hope all you guys are still keen for some.

I also have been getting the guys at work to make GX strip replica's they have come out good but the colour is a little off so we are working on that too...... so if you want some of them to i recommend you wait until we match the colour right.... will post pic's of them too

put my name on a 4 sets of glass ones and 1 of the mesh ones. may be more.lol.

so these will fit my ute, my sedan and my wagon? if you end up doing rear sedan ones would be great or even coupes, and the coupes may fit 2 door sedan and 2 door wagons.

i will take a set of glass and 1 mesh if they turn out ok.

the strips look ok to, even if the colors off they will still be ok.

alright guys had a few problems as the fibre glass we had at work was old and brittle as sh*t... so i snooped around and i found some sheets of this .....some pics added...
so the plan is to make a mould of the ones i have and then start making these bad boys... i will be heating them up in the oven at work to about 70-80degress and then placing them in the mould and this way it should be down so much more quicker...
will let you know when mould is complete and progress is made...

and sorry that it has been taking so long....

oh and hope you guys don't mind that it is tinted

Hi Carps,

Perspex is a good idea. The thickness of the material of the steel units allows for it to slide up into the channel in the window frame so you might want to figure out a way of fixing the thicker perspex.

I made a set up using a vacuum mould, it was okay but lots of effort in the mould. The mould was built to make two units side by side in a single cast, I ran them through a band saw afterward to split them into the two halves.

Was looking okay but never got past the hurdle of fitting them, having designed them like the steel units.

tint is good- its not too dark so will be ok. gives me an excuse to color code some other stuff to match

hey clyons8, yeah have thought about that do have a bit of brain storming to do regarding the mounting situation and the thickness of the material. have had an idea about stretching it to make it thinner in spots due to mounting under the window frame.
but i haven't quite decided how to go about it yet... as for the mould i have started to mock it up using cardboard then will move on to make a cast...
have a bit of work and planning ahead of me so if anyone has any ideas that could make my life easier let me know please as i would love as much feedback as possible.


P.S i'm glad you like the tint lol its is an excuse to tint your windows lol.....

hey guys i should have the mould done tomorrow and a test visor done fingers crossed it comes out good
i have only done the mould for the drivers side so far if it comes out good then i will just reverse it and make the LH side
i willl try and post up some pic's too....
