#1 time for new brake pads... what do you guys suggest? (road/race)
ANGE Posted on: 2011/3/9 10:34
will an intermediate type pad (street/race) offer any better braking performance?
or will they just withstand higher temperatures?

currently im running standard bendix road pads in my ute with 250mm s13 discs/calipers
ive done 4 track days and a couple of hillclimbs plus about 15,000 road klms on them

they have about 1/4 left on them but im thinking ill change them now before hitting wakefield at the nats next month.

i cant fault the setup currently so im wondering should i stick with
what i know works or is it worthwile going to a semi race pad while im replacing them?

if so i'd like to know what type/brand of pads you think i should go with?

cheers!
andrew

So your using the smaller CA style caliper
So your pad shape should be the same as N13 Pulsar ... DB1117

Personally I would maybe try some Lucas or Remsa pads
Not too cheap... but not too fancy either

Bendix ultimates are cheap and will not fade if your car isn't too heavy. They are a pretty sweet pad and don't cost a million bucks, I would recommend them. I have gotten them pretty hot in a 1300kg car and they still hold up. Make sure you bed them in properly though that's the most important part. Not sure about how good they are over a long period of time however.

Andrew,
Unless you want to go for a track day pad and pay the $$$ otherwise I would recommend Lucas TRW pads.
These are cheap and seem to work pretty well.

Hey Ange
I have had a good run out of Intima pads. I use the SR version which is the intermediate one.
They are about $120 on Ebay.
Cheap and they work.

For a proper race pad that is cheap i run QFM brand A1RM compund. same as race brakes pads but cheaper. great on the street work well from cold have a great high temp rating and work great on the track twice as good as bendix ultimate and they are cheaper!

Lags - I have just fitted a set of A1RM pads for a track day tomorrow. I will advise how they go after the weekend.
I have heard plenty of good things about them so I thought I might give them a crack.

I have had excellent results using Ferodo DS-2500's. Oz distributor can be found here: Comp Friction

I ran Bendix Ultimates all last year... Thought they were great...

Then tried SBC Carbon ceramic pads, Race brakes cut them to suit your calipers and they are AWESOME, Pedal feels SO much better and im braking a whole heap later with confidence!

Race brakes cut them to suit (GTR calipers, same as wrx,evo pads), the pads are $250 and cutting is 100, so not the cheapest but im really impressed.
The other downside is the carbon ceramic puts a coating on your discs, so they need a light machine if you go back to normal pads.

I actually have a set of the QFM's Lags was talking about, forgot i had them and went straight to these.. heard they were worth a try.
