Short bosses are awesome. My ute had one and I had so much more room. As for the stalk, grab a 10mm ring spanner and bend it in towards the dash.

I had a really short boss that came on one of the 1200's I bought. Problem with it was that the wheel ended up to close to the indicator stalk and my fingers kepted smacking into it when I went around sharp bends. I cut the indicator stalk down as an interim measure...but not a big fan of short bosses!!

really ssskiwi?... i dont think so man, those things would take tonnes of force to yield under compression of an accident. cant see it, its cast alu, it wouldn't yield neatly it would shatter anyway

the steering column is collapsible for that reason, also the spokes of the steering wheel bend in a decent impact... no way the boss kit is absorbing anything!

Boss kits are designed to collapse in an accident and absorb energy when you hit the steering wheel.

I wouldn't be happy with cutting and welding any steering component..

i dont see how its dodgey at all

only problem, i tried it, the kit i had was actually hollowed/webbed inside. so i cut it and then had no way to drill and tap holes for the wheel

So could it be done?
As you all know in the utes space is a premium so to move the steering wheel forward could the steering boss kit be say cut and shortened and re welded or is that a bit dodgy?
