Looks to me there is a bit added in there, as though it was too short and had a bit added... Odd

mine did that once i pulled the axles out, the axles just weren't going back in the whole way. I def wouldnt be drivin a car with a diff that looks like that! But yeah as said above, pull it apart ad sus out what has been done.

I cant believe the s**t that some people make and expect to work.Anyway what is the solution? If the overall width of the diff is what you want that means the axle lengths may be acceptable (pending where the pinion position is) then all you have to do is a new housing to suit the axles .Iwould only use new bilett bearing ends and thicker retainer plates, what is the deal with the welded on caliper mounts, dosn't it have handbrakes?,best of going back to the standard commodore backing plate if you can fit them between the springs , it can be a relativly simple conversion if you keep it simple and use the standard parts .Brian

the thing i like most about it is that you can visiby see the change in angle of the axle tube where they cut it. Bin the housing and start over

if its LSD, judging by the workmanship of the diff, they might have just not had teh 2 splines in the LSD lined up, and therefore the axle wouldnt go in all the way. so they thought that spacing it out might be the better option

A mate did the same thing but cut the end off his axle to get it in....only to be told shortly after that you need to make sure the splines are lined up first

but if you pull it apart, make sure the splines are lined up, then put both axles in the lsd (all outside of the housing) you should be able to get an idea of the length it will be
