Well I have a sad update. I just pulled the head off the alledged A12GX motor and not only is it not an origional GX motor but it is also rooted. I did a quick leakdown test on the block before I pulled the head off and air and splattering oil pissed out the back of the motor. Then when I pulled the rocker gear off most of the thread came with it. 2 of the head bolts were so tight I nearly hurt myself getting them loose and as you already know there were only 2 washers under the head bolts. The head.. I don't know where to start. I'm not sure if it's salvageable but I hope so. Then there's the bottom end. 1.5mm up in the bore with oil wash past the pistons and the head was not even dowelled to the block! The only good thing is that with the head not dowelled to the block and the fact that the head gasket was barely attatched I could unwind the head off the block like it was a giant nut.

Words can not express how angry and dissapointed I am right now. It's lucky I'm on decent pain medication right now.

I don't know what to do. But hopefully the bloke I got it off will reimburse me some cash to compensate for the fact that 3/4 of the motor is no good. The block is already on max overbore so I'll need another motor. Basically I need to start again or not at all.

Well old mate is absolving himself of all responsibility in reguards to selling me a dud engine. And apparently if enough people tell you it's a genuine GX motor it automatically becomes one. What an arsehole. There is no honour.

name and shame time

Well the A12 situation has left a sour taste in my mouth. It may have been the wake up call that I need. Perhaps it is karma telling me to stop pissing around with 40 year old technology or I might be going crazy but maybe, just maybe I should be doing a late model EFI twin cam conversion after all.

Of course if I did do that I would set it up in the spare parts car first.

Should I or shouldn't I?

A series I say- keep it simple... Go the big a14 or a15 for road- go crazy in the spare race car

Yeah... No. Large overweight engines in a small light car are not for me. Maybe in a sunny. It would have to be either a CR14DE or a CG13DE. I like the idea of the CG13DE standard(ish) at first, then later turbocharging it. Then if I ever do get enough money together to go IP racing then I could destroke it to get under 2L.

in a loving way ill tell you - you will not IPRA race it. it costs wads of cash to build a decent car and it costs a lot to run it. Hell, club sprints aren't cheap! id say to get it to ipra spec youd have to drop 25k on it and it would be entry level... simons motec is worth over ten grand alone...

a12 totally stock internal motor with a tiny gtr turbo and efi on e85 is making 120kw at the wheels. light, bloody cheap to fix if motor pops and it all fits already. or if you wanted to pave a new path the motor you just sold sounds pretty cool

and lastly dont cop it on the chin and give us this maye its karma crap - this guy is a dick and you need to be reimbursed to start again.
