This was passed in on the expected price range of $5-8k..

It would have probably been worth more in comepletely original condition rather than re-sprayed??

i thought it would have fetched 5k easily

cant see how it not being painted could make it worth more though,
it looked stunning

passed in means that it had a reserve of somewhere between 5,000 and 8,000 but did not sell

Pretty much that it didn't hit reserve..

Looked stunning yes but still had a few ripples and who knows what has been hidden under that shiny paint? How much bog?

At least with a original paint job you know what you are getting, warts and all..

Also reading the vehicle report it needs a bit of work mechanically/electrically, maybe not that much considering it is a 40 year old Datsun but still, if you want top dollar you fix those things..

normally when shannons quote 5-8k range it means the reserve is 8k
