interesting, i know for a fact that the r31 strut tube is the same size. so it would be weird for the thread to be cut at a larger diameter on the r31
But yeah, i havent directly compared a stanza on to an r31 strut so i'll take you word on that one.

Stanza insert body length :438mm maximum extension: 617mm R31 insert body length : 362mm mamimum extension : 553mm Roughly 3 inch drop in body length. I was looking for this info a while ago and found inserts that were -1, -2, -2.5, -3 inches shorter than the Stanza insert that were T4 type shocks

so, what do you do when the insert is shorter that the strut length? ... fill the bottom with washers?

??
Not sure if I'm confusing things here Demacoz but the purpose of the shorter inserts is so you can shorten your strut tube so you still get the same suspension travel but lower ride height. If you stuffed up and cut too much out you could always space it up a bit I spose. Or go lower! In regards to the gland nuts, the Stanza strut nut is 1mm smaller than the R31. It's not much but definately not compatible, I even tried screwing it in again to make sure I wasn't on drugs! Even though the outer tube is the same they must just machine out the Stanza a mm smaller. Quote:

Yeah, I was fiddling with some options on 3 sets I have and put inserts with a shorter travel into longer tubes ... the end being that i had less spring coils but did not cut the tubes.
Still thinking about that one.

Can you use the stanza gland nuts with the r31 shocks?

sYeah but the R31 insert is larger diameter as well. I'll need to die grind the gland nut out about 1-2mm to accomodate the bigger insert. Shouldn't be too hard. Wish I got the Camry inserts now!!

Posted in my stanza strut thread:
"I just finished putting R31 inserts into sectioned stanza struts. I can confirm that all the different R31 gland nuts (holds insert in) did not fit the stanza tubes. I had a nut from my R31 struts, a fine thread nut and a large thread nut that came with the new shocks and all were too big. I used the stanza ones I had but thought it was interesting that they were all different."

They aren't the original Stanza gland nuts. The inserts must have been replaced at some point. The original nuts are alloy (mine are anyway).
Unless the Jap/Aussie spec issue is at play again. Maybe yours are Aussie spec. Mine are def Jappo's. You can view topic.
