A12 Turbo Development thread

Where the engine is at now,
-A12, Standard pistons, cast rings, standard rods, H89 head(standard)Arp head studs. -EFI -236 Deg at .050(Edited from 256 deg, made a mistake) -600cc seimens injectors -E85 -Stock Turbo off twin turbo Skyline ($100 secondhand) -11psi Boost Im limited to about 14Psi with this turbo because they are made with a ceramic turbine impeller. Much more boost than this, these turbines tend to fly apart. Here is the dyno grph of where its at at the above specs: I`ll be fitting a steel turbine wheel to this turbo next. The upgade steel turbine and rebuilt kit is about $380. I`ll post another graph when this is done.

So give us a break down on your graph.
How do you feel about these figures? Do they represent a good starting point for what you want? From what I gather it's about 135hp @ the wheels and approx 120 ftlb of torque. Is that right?

118lbs thats good torque from the lil beast!
you upgrading the turbo yourself? Would be interesting to see this turbos limit.

Thats some good numbers there.
~135hp (at the wheels) ~120ftlb of torque Thats pretty good considering the lack of modifications. Gives perspective to the capabilities of this engine. makes me feel a little more confident about my a15 turbo project.

Makes me want to know how far a stock A15 with e85, efi, tuned length runners and a dob of boost will go...

Yeah, about 135HP and 120FtLb.
With this turbo, its just into boost at 2500 RPM. Its starts climbing at 3100, by 3700 its at 145Kpa(6.6psi) and 160Kpa at 4500. the peak pressure was 175 Kpa on this run. Lambda is set to be .86 at 100Kpa richening to .75 at 175Kpa Ignition timing is: 30deg BTDC at 100Kpa(Atmospheric pressure)and peak torque. 19Deg BTDC at 175Kpa(11Psi) at peak torque. increasing to 23Deg BTDC at 175Kpa(11Psi) at 7000RPM. EGT stabilised at 525c at the turbine inlet. Air temps were 87c pre intercooler and 27c in the manifold. Im happy with where its at. I set ign to MBT (minimum timing for best torque) With EGT as low as it is, im confident it will withstand a fair bit more boost. I`ll have a go at doing the steel wheel upgrade on the turbo myself. But ive never done one before. I have run this turbo to 205Kpa(15.4Psi) and it made 163Hp, That would be about the limit of this turbo without doing the steel turbine upgrade. When i do another graph ill include manifold pressures and lambda.

It's got a pretty sweet intake manifold! That would certainly help getting the air in.

Put some pics up of the engine bay Simon to show these boys that it's not quite as simple as a few tweaks. It's a pretty impressive setup if you haven't seen what's going on.
