Most electrical problems start at a bad earth. Check all your earths, chassis and engine. Also positive terminals at the starter. Pull your fuseable link and check connections. It was most likely happening because your lights were on. Do you run H4 lights without a relay? I would also check the back of your fuse box and make sure elements of it aren't half melted. The old 1200's are common for this on the headlight circuit.

Check this and get back to me.

I might be able to spare you a few hours on the weekend. But not until you've checked some basics.

I said the same thing don, can't be reg as cheaked/changed last night from a motor I seen running with no problems, and it is a intermitant thing, now he has no power to anything, but battery has charge as fan and pump still works, so as don said I tent to agree with fuse box as h4 does melt them if no relay used! I've got I think I've got a spare somewhere here! Lol could be earths as well I always had problems with boot earth

so no power to the cabin.. that a probably a dirty or melted connector.
Check the connectors under the dash that connect the engine bay with the dash loom.
Make sure the connectors are clean not green looking or melted..

here's my original fuse box that had a melt down problem - I was able to save it by taking it out of the car & sanding with emery paper all the contact points back to bright shiny brass. Once cleaned up it worked perfectly. When I first put it in & powered up the box I was watching it & immediately notice a massive heat build up cuz I had my hand on it. if this occurred on yours it likely burnt thru a wire so you'll need to investigate.

you can see how the plastic around where the lug mounts into started to melt, it loosened the fit into the box but it all occurred due to oxidation on the contact points - clean both the fuse contacts & the wire connections on the back of the box

Still havent had chance to look but I did feel ignition switch plug and fuse box when driving occasionally and neither were warm or hot to touch.

Need to make new alt top adjusting bracket as old one snapped some how. Will use 6mm plate. Now I wish I had a plasma cutter!

I thought it may ground alt to block then the block grounded to body by cable.

Well no tome today- not feeling greatest.

Must be a ground or fuseable link. Went to car lifted broken alt arm off, jiggled fuseable link, pos bat post, got 2 engine earths one to bat and one to rail, checked both, turned on headlights bam! They all work and car starts! Wtf! Horn tooted the works. All I did inside was touch the fuse box cover didn't do anything else.

I don't reckon I will sort this in time for 10th.. Crap

try removing the battery ground off the oil pump bolt, clean that contact - re-tighten, the main ground contact from the wiring harness I think is at the horn mount bolt going into the frame rail up front on the right hand side, pull that & clean really well re-install then make sure batt posts & connectors are all nice & shiny, tighten up.

try that first & see if car starts/runs - if not then go to the fuse box. The box itself isn't grounded to the frame but has a main ground lead - thats the part about pulling the box & cleaning all the terminal connections.

If its a ground or connection problem all the above will likely solve it, especially if all your wiggling got it to run again.

You know Yoda once said "not try....dooo" - good luck!
