ITEM 11: Datsun A12 74mm Flat-top Short Block
CONDITION: Fresh

EXTRA INFO: Short block means, the block, the crank, the con-rods the pistons the rings, the camshaft, the tappets etc that make up a rotating bottom end. Timing cover and gear, front pulley is all there including water pump, so it needs a head and some ancillaries and it’s complete.

I bought this off an Adelaide seller who has stated that it is freshly rebuilt and it has a performance camshaft in it.

The pistons are flat-tops. They look decent and the bores have the fresh hone marks quite visible. I cannot confirm the camshaft is indeed a performance one but I have had good reason to believe it is a moderate, road performance cam going by the sellers word and the lack of fly-cuts in the pistons.

The engine was run for a few hours while they tested the carbs out.

A great, cheap bottom end that you can use whilst you build a higher performance unit.

I just dragged it out and had a good look at it. It has certainly been run before so it's is within reasonable time of it's last rebuild but the block isn't the best looking block and would need a decent coat of paint.
