Posting a photo would help this discussion.
You all are correct, that is not an A-series engine. Looks like a J13 to me. The E1 was only 1200ccs, and this has 1300 cast into it. The "A" cast into it probably means revision A. Datsun A-series engine don't have a cast "A", except for the early A14 blocks have a cast "A14". Otherwise, just like for the stamped number on the boss behind the distributor. I'm not sure what people's problems are specifically, but i think we are seeing a transition over a long period of time.
1200s are not in wreckers anymore, datsuns arn't the usual cheap p-plate car anymore parts are getting harder to find and no-one is giving them away on mass like they used to it all points to an increase in value of the parts and cars if i sell my last part (say a set of tailights)... where will i get a replacement from? it's not obvious anymore sure lots of stuff goes on sale and doesn't sell, because perhaps people don't need that part at that time (there is also a lot less datsuns getting around). and people are always going to want to buy cheap but receive maximum when they sell... it just makes sense to do that. i hate selling my bits, and therefore realise that now im earning decent enough money and do want to keep parts that this means i need to pay more for what i buy also ten years ago anyone could buy any GX bit for a reasnoble price, they could also buy an a15 as easily as an a12, there was rust free bodys getting around all over the place for $500 and if ya needed a part you could go to the wreckers and buy it for under $50 the datsun 1200 is becoming the choice of an enthusiast who sees something they like in the car, not just the "it was going cheap so i bought it" type car

I agree with rc here, parts are getting hard to find- look at the eBay rip off merchants selling inferior copies for a kidney.
I am thinking of selling my 1200 and buying Datto stanzas sunny. Parts are way more plentiful fir b310 and newer. Also it's L series already so more mechanical options for parts too. I will never get my money back on the b110 so it's a choice of drive it into the ground, sell it while it's worth something or play round with it and have some fun. Seems too good a car for that but end of the day unless some one walked up said here's cash I want your car and parts- I'm going to enjoy it. If you want cheap and plentiful- commodores abound for you

This is veering a little off topic. I don't have a problem with this forum at all moreso eBay sellers (who are sometimes members here I suppose). Sure there are a few peanuts on here but you get that wherever you go, and generally they don't stick around long.
My issue is simple; people are declaring parts to be rare and super sought after when they are either selling something that isn't what it is or they have convinced themselves that it is something that it isn't. Don;t listen to your mates that reckon they know it all, or your tradie mate at the pub; Read-up, identify what you have, check numbers, check the going prices vs condition and price yours accordingly. As for people not willing to pay increased prices (reasonable, justifiable prices) snap out of it, if you want the Datsun 1200 and 1000 to become more of a valuable collector classic and not a laughing stock economy jap box then start accepting the rising prices. Otherwise make a move toward B310's or something else altogether. Have you not seen the prices on the Japanese market! Most parts are double if not triple the price what we pay.

I pay what I think is fair for the parts I buy. Having my Cherry's (rare cars) I buy what I can when I can. Made some good friends doing it but have also met some wankers also.
if you want the part bad enuff you will buy it! I also like to do a bit of research and comare prices if I can.

Veer off topic...? I don't think I've seen that happen here before...
Old mate advertizing a 'rare A13 race engine' and what it is was a J13 stocker.

seems honest enough now that it has been corrected, its the ads like these that go the other way we all appreciate... you know like... "selling datsun 1200 bonnet, has a lump down the centre , i think it looks crap but someone might want it $50"
we've all found something like that some day havent we? You can view topic.
