If I buy a car in Victoria that has a few months rego left over, I know the rego wont be in my name until I get an inspection back home, but is it legal to drive around until it runs out? Does the rego get cancelled if I'm an interstate buyer? What about third party?
Cheers

its illegal to sell a car in vic with out rwc technically so if it doesnt come with rwc the rego should be cancelled by the old owner- se that to negotiate a price reduction as you have to sort rwc and they can cash in rego.

then you buy a permit from vic roads and drive it home. you may need a seperate certificate to drive in your state too.

messing around with permits and vicroads sounds a hell of a lot harder than just using up the residual rego and getting an inspection in NSW later on, there must be a way around it? by "technically", do you mean the seller could just wait until they hand in the papers?

Beauty of vic- buyer hands in the trans papers usually before the seller lol.

Do a securities checknon it. Make sure it has clear title before you put a deposit on it.
