#1 This "GX-5 Item" thing really has to stop....

I was looking through my GX5 photos, and 9 out of 10 of them have nothing to do with the GX5. Nearly all of the coupes touted as GX5 are obvious clones, sometimes not even the correct year.

On eBay and Yahoo Auctions it's being used to drive sales, but mostly they are just standard 1200 items, sometimes GX items -- but not GX5. Such as consoles and dashes. Come on gentlemen, they are just regular consoles and the same dash as other coupes!

They are driving up the cost of 1200 parts and I'm getting sick of it.

Wow, I had to look twice. It's like an echo.

Apart from it's appearance are there any other indicators that point to a genuine GX5 or GX vehicle. i.e; chassis/build number?

I don't buy as often from YAJ as I used to, I thought that was expensive full stop. Have you purchased anything GX and found out it isn't?

Where ever there are people who will pay premium prices for any given item, there will always be somewhat unscrouplous sellers who will take their money.
"Fools and their money part eaisly"
It sad really, and I feel your pain DD.

Here in Aus, the Ford fanatics with all the GT stuff has now got to the point where all cars sold as a GT have the ID numbers checked with Ford before sale. Ford has a hotline where you can ring up and check a given chassis ID number to confirm what it was when it left the factory. Despite the hawk eyes of the Ford GT market where every genuine GT is known and locations tracked, people still try to push non-GT items and cars into the market.
Its the same as the Nigerian Bank scams. Even if 100 people say no, only 1 has to say yes to make it worth it.

On the flip side, i would happily bet that every person on this forum has sold items for profit, not told a seller the true value of a special item and paid a pittance for it.

Market value is the true value of a given item, and not neccessarily the value that any one individual wants to pay for it. The price of datsun 5 speeds in Aus is a good example.

But, deliberate misrepresentation of items in order to boost the sale price is morally wrong, and technically illegal in most countries.

I dont have the answer or want to take sides, but there will always be keen sellers and reluctant buyers.
