Yes, the heated manifold is part of the reason why performance of fuel economy is so good
1. Heated manifold helps atomize the air/fuel mixture, to burn it more fully
2. Heated air cleaner is temp-regulated, so air/fuel mixture is stable. Thus carburetor can be jetted leaner and still work well
3. The 5-speed overdrive makes it about 20% more fuel-efficient at 100 km/h than the 4-speed

Alas I don't have a 5speed in this car. The way the gearbox sounds, it wont be long till I don't have a 4spd either.
