#1 Making a ford 8.8 bolt on? Possible without going with custom frame?

Hi guys,

Going for a more stronger set up and since the r31 aren't available here in the USA the ford 8.8 is my best possible option. LSD and with disk on both end as well as cheap and easy to find makes this a top option instead of the IRS swap I was considering.
Plus launching on slicks might be in the future.

Anyways how do you guys mount these live axle?

I don't want a full drag set up with box tubing subframe.

So I was thinking narrowed with shorter axle.

And then all mounting from the stock rear end are transferred/made custom to the 8.8

So it would be essentialy a bolt on rear end without modification to the datsun body.

Is this how narrow rear end are adapted?
Or is there something else?

I rear the tech wiki but nothing is really covered on this so I assumed it simple the way I stated it.

Inputs?

Thanks

Sure, they mount the same way any live axle mounts. Do the same as mounting an LSD-fitted H190 or Ford 9": Cut & grind the 4-link brackets off, then weld spring perches on.

The 8.8 is a good choice it can handle extreme torque, nearly as much as the 9" but considerably lighter. Even so I've seen more 9" in Datsun 1200 than 8.8. It's tradition.

Most guys use a Ranger 8.8, obtain an additional short-side axle and cut only one side of the axle housing to shorten it. If you want seriously narrow, I don't know what they do -- probably would need to modify the body and move the leaf mounting points inboard.
