dont know about nsw(or how worried you are about being defected) but in qld there are certain tolerances you have to be within from original wheel track front and rear as well as rolling diameter.

my ute was running spacers (illegal in qld unless OE and unsafe IMO) front and back and the track was also outside tolerances. i also had front strut clearance issues due to the differing geometry of the front disc brake conversion.

so i measured my track and worked out how much i had to change my offset front and back in order to get rid of the spacers and meet tolerances and then had to consider a front tyre that would clear the strut as well as meeting OD requirements.

i only wanted to use the steel rims that i had. i did have a look at various mags and found that (with the exception of watanabes (big bucks)) the sizes i required were not available.

hope this helps.

You will need the same offset as your 15" wheels, if you like the way those fit. 17s will be the same, just taller. Look at what's on there now. If it is using spacers with the wheels now, subtract the width of the spacer from the wheel offset.

If you want to change the offset, start with what you have. Estimate:
* How much clearance is there to the leaf spring? If more than necessary, add more positive offset.
* How much clearance is there to the inner fender? If more than needed, add more negative offset. Measure the tire clearance (unless you are going to run stretched tires).

Generally speaking +30 offset for fitting inside the bodywork. +20 perhaps for the rear of a ute in order to fit inside the body. Let us know what the measurements are now, so we can add it to the database.
