Re: Help.

I had an issue with a fuel filter and petrol cap lid. The lid sealed air tight and overnight as temps dropped the fuel would contract and suck the fuel out of the line back into the tank- sorry best way I can describe it.
Replace fuel filter with larger volume one was a short term fix but could be traced to faulty fuel cap

Can you explain the dwell angle ?
Dwell angle is a way to accurate measure points gap. For the spark timing. It won't cause the problem below.

After driving and Parking up the car at nights, the carburettor runs dry.
Leaving me to tcrank the engine about 5 times on mornings to get it to start,i also have to be pumping the accelerator pedal before it could start
After I get the engine Started,it works fine troughout the day.
That is the normal way to start it when the fuel bowl runs dry.

So the problem is the fuel bowl runs dry. That's what you need to fix. See this:

Um, no, dwell isnt an accurate points gap setting, its a bit more complicated than that, but basically its to do with WHEN the points open and close, as opposed to how far they open (points gap setting)
As you can imagine, if you set your points gap on the wrong part of the lobe (VERY easy to do if doing the job "by eye") you can inadvertantly change your ignition timing.

but basically, find someone with a dwell meter and the knowledge to use it.

You are correct, it's not a points gap setting.

As I said it was a way to "meaure". I should have said "Reading the Dwell angle from a dwell-meter is a way to accurately determine if your points are set correctly".
