Go with a GM-badged Corolla. The Toyotas cost too much for an old car. Or a Suzuki. Or even a newer Kia, they are cheap and DOHC.

Only issue with those small cars they are holding thier value as more young people get on road and other drivers want cheap cars on fuel.

Jap cars usually cheaper to fix. Get a camry or even holes appolo etc. same mechanicals but cheaper to buy. Also no resale when you flog em off though.

I agree with trb012, there is a reason why an 11 y/o Pug (or any other European car) is cheap: Things DO go wrong and are very expensive to repair. Last thing you'll want is to spend all that money you've put aside for your beloved coupe on keeping the Pug on the road.

If you're looking at getting an inexpensive, comfy, RELIABLE daily driver, go with a mid-late 90's Civic, Corolla or Pulsar with a reasonably decent service history. They're all cheap to run and if you keep up the preventative maintenance on any of these three and they'll faithfully serve you very well.

My ute was my daily drive for almost two years before I moved to Brisbane. I run into the same situation when I want to fix something...its always over the weekend. However, for instance, with my dash panel - I wanted to spruce my original one up but what I did instead was buy another to fix up during the weeknights, then come the weekend you can just swap it out. At least with some build items you can do this. Then just sell the original and get all or most of your money back.

that's why I put an auto in the ute - been driving for over 30 years and can't be bothered anymore. i think the crunch point will be winter though

depends if you want to build the 1200 into a show or race car then definately do it, but the risk is you buy a daily and have little use for the datto

I also cycle to work, faster, cheaper and less stressful than driving. Seriously, takes 35 minutes to cycle to work (in the city) where driving takes 45 to an hour. Burns fat to.

Get a daily, like a 200b no one will love. If you get a cheap Datsun you could make sure a bluebird or similar may provide parts too for future mods. I lived your pain and got on my bike instead
