so now you know its a dogleg be careful not to reverse into anything when you think you are taking off in "first" gear
Does anyone know WHY Nissan /Datsun changed from dogleg to standard pattern?

Put it in top left position and turn the input shaft and I'd the rear shaft spins in the opposite direction it's "in reverse" there for dog leg.

they made 4 speed 60a gearboxes as well so you wont be able to tell just from the size of it, they look identical to 5 speeds

If it has "60" cast into it it could be 4speed 5 speed std patern 5 speed dogleg pattern
IF its a 5 speed dogleg, the drain plug will point to the REAR, not downward as is the case for the std pattern 5 speed
or simply put it in gear in the TOP LEFT position and then turn the input shaft. If the output shaft turns the OPPOSITE direction, its a dogleg 5 speed (FS5W60L) ie you are in reverse in the top left position
to easily see the output shaft rotation direction, push on a short piece of 19mm poly retic pipe or a plastic water bottle onto the output shaft

It doesn't have 63a but on the front casing it's stamped 60?
