Are you talking just normal H4's or HID's? If just replacement h4 globes then just plug them in! Wiring up HID's takes a bit more work....

if you go to above 70watt bulbs for high beam you definitely want to upgrade your wiring, i fried the crap out of mine at first :)
i would recommend (same thing an auto elecy did for mine) adding in 2 relays, low beam and high beam, so that the wiring which comes from the interior of the car is used simply as a signal, then the hot 12V goes from the battery through the relays coil directly to the lights. also use a ~40amp breaker from the battery to the relays. the12volt.com always helps with stuff like this too. goodluck!

when i upgraded (learnt the hard way)
tech wiki lamp wiring

edit: if anyone has installed HID's some pics would be great. they are a bit too expensive to blow the $ now, but something i will do in the future..

Hid lights are a plug and go thing.. Just plug the original plug into the kit and plug the ballast snd globe together mount the ballast then drive 10 minute job.

evilsim is correct,

orange 1200/shoota... the original lights are sealed beam.... you cant even change the globes.... that's terrible advice

if you change from the original sealed beams you need to wire in a relay so that you can have a power source that does not go through the original loom/fuse box as it is not adequate

H4 is a great upgrade for all dattos

HIDs in driving lights are illegal (unless your car has sensors in the suspension to dip the lights when the angle of the car changes) and completely unnecessary! i use them in my spotlights in my rally car but even the rally scrutineers ensure we do not have them in the normal lights at each event. there is absolutely no need for HID light power in a road car

to wire in HIDs is easy but not plug in one end then plug in the other, you need to have your relays setup to power them and you need to make a mount to hold the ballast box, then often you need to modify the light/globe to suit also (particularly on spot lights)

^^^ my bad about the sealed beam part.. But every car I've had I've put hid light kits in head light, high beam and fog lights and have never ever had to add relays.. Just plug both ends in and off u go.. I've never had a problem... But hids in the datto in my opinion looked #OOPS# keep it old school bright yellow bulbs FTW!!

Pull your head in 1200RC, put a bit more thought in before you slander someone's advice. The crystal headlights I believe he's talking about are a lowish wattage replacement globe and entire light housing that REPLACES the sealed beam unit.
It will plug straight in to the existing wiring with no modification necessary. How do I know? I have them in my ute.
As with any headlight, wiring in a relay is highly advisable especially in an older car.

why would you write "pull your head in"?

you said just plug new globes in... it is not possible

they will run the wiring hot if you don't have a relay, particularly on high beam and depending on how much corrosion and how good you connections are as to if it melts the wiring/starts a fire in your car

Easy boys, each to there own! I've done all above conversions, crystal with 55/60, 60/90, 60/100, hid bla bla, with the 55/60 they are not to bad you 'CAN' plug and play but... With any upgrade I recommend using relays as you get much better out come, and lessen the risk of melting looms!

In my past I have melted looms by doing this upgrade cos I never fitted relays but it also comes down to how long they are on for, how often, and the connections at each end, if corroded then it will make things alot worse!

I can try and find pics I have around of what happens ect if needed and can draw a simple drawing of wiring if needed
