Well, after a bit of fidgeting, I gutted the 4 speed and mocked it to the engine, I removed the offending bolts and sat the block with box into the thou engine bay, bolted the gearbox mount up and then sat the head and rocker cover on.
![]() I have the crank girdle sitting on a 16mm piece of MDF to get a rough height. With the bonnet on, the oil cap clears the ribbing and at the front has a clear 20mm of breathing space It does sit a bit close to the firewall though for the water outlet at the rear. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So, I guess the end result is, Yes. The CR14DE is a viable conversion. There are some things that will need sorting out but at the moment I am thinking of the GC13DE. I want to use something that doesnt need sump modifications.

great project!! i have this engine in my cube an while not amazing performance it still holds it own in a cube it would be more than adequate for some laughs in a datsun 1000 or 1200!!
top effort

who would have thought a 1.4 liter engine would fit in the 1200 engine bay so nicely?
