keep the mounts to reweld back on later. Gives a nice factory finish to the x member location for gear box.
Engineer liked it on mine.

Todays job. Cut Auto tunnel out of old Coupe sticking to the original seam, except near seat rails of course as Auto tunnel actually goes back past the seat rails, and 1/3rd the way into rear floor. Then cleaned off remaining bit of floor pan and firewall by carefully grinding the spot welds down, then flapper disc on grinder. Cleaned off 40ish years of grease and dirt on under side. Now to remove old mounts and linkage guide thingy and then on to other side removing old tar and crap so we have a nice clean slate to fit to ute.

P.S I've changed me mind goin L series in wagon and CA and stumpy in Ute now.

I have the same...bare shell. I just can't seem to get enough clearance under the cabin with the stands I have on there. Can get under the tray easy enough but not the rest.

Instead of epoxy enamels, etc.. I am using a U-pol Raptor liner kit to spray on the underbody as well as the tray. I tried putting the 1st litre on by brush..mega fail. Definitely a spray on job even though it says spray/brush/roller

Thanks guys. Datsunbeginner I just put the car on stands and got under there with a wire wheel, wire brush good set of goggles dust mask and went to it but i had the whole rear end out of the ute including tank, leaf springs exhaust, spare wheel cradle etc. The paint i used didnt really require alot of prep just get rid of any scaley paint or loose surface rust. Its an enamel i can put up a pic of the can if you like its toxic but holds up well.

Nice solid ute build Andy. Can I ask how you got to the underside of the ute and were able to spray it? Did you use a rotisserie?

I'm also doing L-series convo. I got my Stanza xmember ready to chop up and I got a SSS stanza dogleg stumpy gearbox so far. no L18's around it seems

Xmember bolted in wagon and set up motor where i want it clamped mounts and used a couple small self tappers to hold them in place checked it again removed donk and started welding it all in place. Hopefully wont get much or any twist as its all bolted up tight. Got the mig on gas now whole new ball game welds are definitely better just gotta get used to it.
