and dont worry you wont tbe the first person not to know that, i put my engine together and then had to deal with that lol.
Also, if its the problem and you do tap the holes, make sure you oil/grease the tapping tool so that you have no little shavings floating around in the head...

That's probably more likely to be the issue. Well said and sound advice. The H89 head consists of three holes that circulate the coolant through the manifold. Plugging is always a better idea than welding as you can always simply remove the screws to use the original manifold. Keep us posted. Tough looking engine.

Have only read this page of this build, is it possible the the leak is coming from behind the manifold? I know that on my H89 head there is a couple small holes which the original manifold should of covered, these holes are water jackets i believe which allow cooling through the head.... So i have a single side draft manifold with a weber on which didnt cover
the water jacket holes so i tapped them a put a couple of hex head screws in so that they sat flush. (there is info in tech wiki on this.)
My point is, could this be your problem? or has it on just arisen?

Looks grand. Sorry to hear about the slight mishap. Have you got the head gasket the right way round? It is a pretty common mistake. Looks great though. Must admit I am worried for your 56a 5 speed.

Nah i am unsure of the actual origins for the 56a 5 speed i have.

I brought it off a gentleman here in Canberra that has a datsun/sunny cherry F10 that he races and had it up for sale for cheap so without hesitation and in need of a 5 speed i snatched it up. I really have no idea how he come across it but i am certainly happy and willing to see how it goes.

But unfortunately had a bit of an issue today got all the braided lines into the car and decided to fill it up with fluids.

First off i decided to be a totally idiot and i have no idea why but connected the sump breathing pipe on the back right of the engine to the secondary water inlet on the front of the engine thus filled it up with water and filled the sump arrrgggg.... clearly had way to many drinks last night and was not thinking straight so i fixed all that up and blocked off the front pipe like it should and the other as the return line from the heater and left the sump breather as it should.

From there i was all good until i decided to start it.. Started fine no issues idled fine and surly pissed off the neighbours as its only got the extractors on, but to my luck i go have a look at the engine and there is this nice leak pissing out under pressure from the head gasket near the exhaust manifold so yet again dumped the fluids now not all too impressed.

Decided to say *#OOPS# crack a Jack Daniels and sit down thus to come back later. I am thinking it could be that i have not tightend the head correctly since fixing it so ill get out the torque wrench and tighten it up. If that does not work guess im up for a new head gasket.

None the less here is how it looks with the braided lines

so with getting my tax back and having the day off work this is what happened today.

Took out the fuel pump and pulled it apart thus buffing it toughly and gave it a polish it looks really good in person which im glad about and also went out to speedflow and got myself some braided fuel lines in stainless along with black anodized AN fittings.

Decided to use a 'Y' block to split the lines for the carbies unfortunatly the guys at speedflow don't have any AN banjo fittings in stock and i will have to wait for 5 weeks so in the mean time i have decided to use the original banjo's on the webers with a AN hose clamp fitting for the banjo.

I will have alot more pic's up in the next week of the ute as the seats should be back soon redone from bitchin stichin in canberra, the door trims, headliner and carpet should be here next week along with the dash covered in a nice black leather now with red stitching and a customer centre console made from newgel in canberra as well.

alot of cash has been spent and it should be all in the car by next week or the week after i can not wait to finally see the finished product.

Here is a pic of the good's. im now considering taking off the sump and polishing it right back as well thats how happy i am with the fuel pump.
