What causes this? I took the pedal out of the box, but is is all greased up. Still has good bushings too.

My ute just started doing this. When I press the clutch pedal down, it makes a loud squeak, loud enough for folks in other cars to hear it.

hey mate,

Could be the clutch bearings which have worn out.
When clutch bearings wear out, they make a noise every time the clutch pedal is "pressed" in.and if it is the bearings, best not to ignore for a long period of vehicle use and change clutch etc.

I hope it's not the Throwout Bearing?

Before my clutch shat itself wen ever it was in nutrle idlein it would make a weird quiet buzzin noise and then when you engadged the clutch it would go away.. it ended up Completly not working and yu could change gears if you slammed it in, was the worst, p.s it was the clutch plate completly worn down, and the thrust bearing failing

dd,

It could most likely be the throwout bearing or clutch release bearing.Sometimes the fork might catch on the outside of the bearing due to lack of enough grease.
You might have to diagonise and rule out what it might be.Could be something minor or maybe major.

check link below for more detailed info on Clutch Diagnosis & Repair.many other websites have same info.hope it helps and update us on what it was.

thank guys

I'll have to keep an eye on it. I re-greased the pedal bushings and all the moving parts lightly. It doesn't make any noise now but maybe it will on a warmer day.

I also sprayed silicone lubricant down the cable, even though the cable seemed to move quite freely.

It's been doing well. The greasing quieted it down and in a few days it all went quiet.

It might have been caused by coolant running down along the clutch pedal. I found a pinhole leak in the heater hose on the firewall. Not enough to ever see any coolant, but it stained the gearbox rust colored. A couple of weeks ago the clutch went from perfect to slightly grabby. So I cut off 3cm of bad heater hose end and put it back on the head. Leak fixed.
