Hey Guys,
Time to start a build thread for my project. I bought this ute as is 2 weeks ago. Paid $3500 for it, it is licensed.
Have spent $500 to date, getting gearbox fixed and rest of car fully serviced. Synchros in 3rd and 4th for knackered, this is all fixed now and gear box seems good.

Plans for this car
It is intended to be a daily driver. I'm going to put an A14 which I'll prob recon with mild cam and hi comp pistons. If its isn't ludicrously expensive I'd consider a small low pressure turbo setup for the A14. More research is required for this. I'll also put a 5sp in it if I can find one for a reasonable price. Going to fully panel and respray car also.

Things to fix:
- Speedo
- Pull to right when driving (bent right strut I believe)
- Right tyre rubbing back wheel arch (caused by same issue as above I think)
- Tail shaft vibration

Thanks Andy

Ok I've sourced some parts locally and went and bought them. Got and A14 (which apparently was running fine when it was removed) with fly wheel and inlet manifold for $400. Got a spare 56-A gearbox for $60 and tailshaft for $50.
Here they are:

Tailshaft didnt work, ended up getting a custom shaft made

Ok booked a panel and paint for the old girl but have to wait about 3 months as its a cashie job its a fair price though so I can't complain.

Decided I will rebuild the A14 and get that all in during this period. Will up some pics once I start pulling apart the engine...

Rebuild the A14? Why, was the compression bad?

Haven't checked yet DD. Speaking to a couple of mates who have built engines, they have convinced me that for how easy it is and cost it's worth doing for peace of mind.

Peace of mind is testing/measuring your engine and repairing it if needed -- and knowing you didn't spend hundreds to rebuild a perfectly good engine.

I've bought a lot of cars over the years, and helped others buy them. Never misjudged an engine yet.

The two Smoke Tests will tell you if the engine is good, along with a test drive and careful listen-to and visual scan. Or do a compression test if you cannot drive the engine.

Used A14s are often good engines, requiring no repair. But you'll not know unless you test it.
