What did you paint it with?

and do you plan to spotweld the rear quarter on? - if so you'll need a bare metal to metal contact

Painted with KBS rust seal (Aus equivalent of POR15)

Being welded on, all part of the plan. My mate mocked up the quarters, worked out where the spot welds needed to go and locally removed the paint there.

Looking good mate just sayin to my self the tail lights look abit past there used by date just gonna say if you going to look into buying new ones go and see or ring total nissan in cannington you can still buy tail lights off them be about a 6 week wait and around the 250 mark but it would be worth it i got some my ute the ebay ones are made in taiwan and not the best they be fadded in 12 months

I wonder as they are so cheap if its worth buying them and giving them a clear coat to protect them? might minimize fade?

The aftermarket tailights normally don't seal very well either. This causes water to get into the lights.

I wound up buying new tailights from taiwan, kept the original surrounds and just put in the new lenses. But as the other guy suggests, genuine tailights are the best option if you can afford it.

Paid 240 bucks waited for 6 weeks when they came i got 2 right hand side ones rang them up they expressed the left one and they were supposed to swap over one right hand but the bloke didnt take it so i might got a free one
