Depends how you read the rules. Yes a full chassis would make it a NA category vehicle. Also if the difference in weight between the unladen weight and the GVM is more than twice the weight of the passengers (68kg each) it is considered to be a goods vehicle and therefore a NA category commercial vehicle.

1200 utes have a full chassis. Did you mean body-on-frame construction? It does not have a full frame.

mattkinsela - Yes, it always has been legal hasn't it? Whilst some may not know this, the 1200 ute, being a ute, is considered a 'commercial vehicle' and is therefore exempt from the usual rule relating to engine capacity vs tare weight...

I hope this helps.

mradtee23, I do come out and do a first inspection on site if it is necessary. However, as this is for the purpose of registration there is a section in the RMS/RTA website that gives you permission to drive unregistered vehicles to a workshop etc. One issue is that if the car is deemed to be unsafe I MUST provide you with a letter stating that the vehicle must not be driven and then you would be stuck at my premises.

If you are ready for a first inspection feel free to give me a call. Usually this is just a look and discussion about what needs to be changed etc.

Hi estyre,

I don't see any problems with the compliance of this vehicle.

With the clearances and the rad support, I would suggest a 'half way' / 'First inspection' just to see how things are and to make some comments on how further changes should be done.

The tunnel will need to be reinforced but this is nothing serious.

Feel free to give me a call if your ready to go ahead with the process or just need some further info.

Hey Matt

Just wondering ,do you see any problems with putting an rb30t into a 92 rodeo ute? It cane our with a 2.6l 4 cylinder petrol and ive put a 3lt turbo 6 in it

As far room goes it fits but I've had to cut the rad support to get the motor and box in as one peice

My question is

Will 10mm thick plate be enough for the engine mounts ,they're plates that bolt to the stock chassis mounts and have grade 8 12mm bolts holding them to the chassis and then the rubber moun lt bolts into them about an inch forward

What's the type with clearancing ? The head is about an inch away from the firewall
And the radiator is about an inch away from the timing cover

The sump is custom and has heaps of room and won't rub on anything

The tunnel is stock hasnt been belted at all ,Shifter hole has moved back about 30mm ,is that a problem?

sorry for bombing a datsun forum with my #OOPS# but not very often you get to ask these type of questions

Cheers
