mcdat, It would be very difficult to move the chassis rails and have it passed as safe. Manufacturers spend a lot of time and wreck a lot of vehicles to be sure that the design is ideal. I would need to see the car and the design plans. What is the goal/reason for moving the rails?

steveo, The legalities of a conversion like this can be simple or complex depending on the year model of your car and what ADRs it needs to comply with. It is definitely passable. Obviously there would need to be upgrades to the brake system etc. Price will vary car to car. Give me a call for more info.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply mate. A blue slip is do-able, a new engineers report for this car is un-do-able.

Thanks again.

You may be insured but you will still be liable in the event of someone being hurt.

If someone dies as a result of a vehicle failure caused by modifications/alterations, you will be liable as the car hasn't ben assessed as safe or legal.

I am the least speed demon here.

I put a CA18DE in the Ute with Auto Trans.... I am so lazy that I am even contemplating getting cruise control (maybe off a 240SX)

As for insurance I am going through Shannons here in Victoria ... I have a quote for agreed value comprehensive insurance for $350 with agreed value of $6000 (I think I will put that up) I called the ppl there and told them what I have done and they will insure me.

Oh .... I am over 50 (Just)

The original tare mass can vary as the rta/rms have a few discrepancies in their system. I will be able to make a decision on the actual tare weight for you, but it will vary depending on the vehicle. To answer the question in advance, No, you cannot have an SR20DET in your 1200.

The only way you could do it is to class the car as an ICV (Individually Constructed Vehicle). This would be very difficult and would cost a lot in time and money. I can certify ICVs but I like to follow the guidelines set by the VSB code of practise.

Anyway, it is not easy to get the licence.

not too mention getting an insurance company to cover you.Kind of a way for RTA to cover their backs also.Legal law suits could arise from anyone including rta.

If one wants to install a larger capacity engine which is not under regulation with vehicle weight, does it then become engineered as a one off or special build etc?
Would it be engineerable if you did all the necessary mods required by a certifier i.e seam welding, extra strengthening chasis, etc basically whatever is needed to be done.

cheers and thanks for helping out forum with your profession.
