ok guys last few bits and pieces are getting sortted almost ready to machine different bits a bobs more prices and new items before weeks up

If you want to get real fancy you use a dual hydraulic handbrake with 2 levers so you can work each rear brake individually
Good for sliding around cones on motokhanas

But no... you can't use them for rego as you need a cable
Hydraulics can leak down and cause the vehicle to run away
Also as the system cools down... things contract and even if you think you have the handbrake on tight... it can still run off when everythings cold

the electric push button jobs still act mechanically, but i see your point

the hydraulic is the scary one as it can leak over time and come loose

great for handbrake turns and such but pointless for holding car still, most rally cars etc run the two brakes so they retain the original as well

National vehicle safety guidelines state that the emergency brakes must be of mechanical opperation, so no hydraulics....but for some reason you are allowed electric park/emergency brakes which i wouldnt really say are a mechanical means, all the new mercs have push button electric park brakes

so yeah, dont go buying a hydraulic handbrake setup expecting it to pass a roadworthy inspection

more so used for rally and drifting to get the rears to lock up quick and easily

you join the cable to the hydrulic hand brake as well
once it passes you back of the cable hyd will work before
cable and if you get a hole in the line cable still there
to stop you (E BRAKE)

Who would run two there on the street???
Answer is if you want one handle then NO hydro is not going to pass rwc

A hydro handbrake doesn't make the existing handbrake useless. They are separate systems, one uses hydraulics, the other is cable operated. Only if you disconnect the standard one does it interfere (which a lot of people do, using the same handle).

I understand the rule as being
-if your brakes or line have failed in any way you have a emergency/park brake-
So tapping a hydro hand brake into the same line as your brake peddle is making the emergency brake useless. Needs to be routed on a separate system...hence not using the same braking method to the normal brake peddle

My understanding. Would be convenient to have it in the same lines to illuminate the need for cables
