Imo an a14/15 would be easier since they just bolt in and go no need for changing cross members or worrying about clearance or anything silly like that and depending on what sorta power ur chasing they go pretty good. There still a hell of a lot better than a a12. On the other hand a l motor would get some good power but if ur after lots of go why not a sr or ca or even a small v8. It all depends what ur preference. Opinions are like bum holes, everyones got one. In my case i had a a15 it went pretty good but i want more so im going a ca18det. Hope this helps lol

A15 plus a whistle
Feed it with an SU or CD stromberg

Cheap bang for buck and bolts in

turbo A15 with a stromberg!

add lightness to add speed. you get better economy, better grip, better tyre wear, and better braking.

Having had both a15 and l16 in a 1200 id leave a15 due to tunnel and x member mods. If in a 120y L series with the steering geometry issues or mod stock x member to fit L.

Lots more options for l series I feel power wise. And a mild L20 will be great.

Do a15 if you want and if not enough power sell it and do l series.

Braking is fine with stanza struts and handling is fine in my car. A little more front heavy (10kg is the motor weight difference)

i wouldnt go a15. as soon as u get power u start spending more on a gearboxs. id go stock L18 sss motor with 5 speed or L20b. a suck through or blow through turbo is cheaper than any decent n/a worked motor. u can get cheap turbo's, manifolds ect for the L series

quick and easy swap with a bit of a power upgrade go for the A15.. good fun for a small package can swap it out and be going in a day then upgrade some 45 webbers and a mild cam.. otherwise if your willing to do the extra mods on firewall, cross member for the extra power for the L series setup it still wont be anything crazy otherwise id opt to swap for a CA18 still a bit of pain but your getting alot more power and economy out of it and there are endless parts and companies to help with the swap, only real issue for the CA is the pain of wiring.

But none the less a A15 is a quick easy swap and can have some great fun even make it turbo for low cost. some guys have been able to get a NA A15 - 180hp with alot of cash and then guys like mick motor sport A15 turbo run 10 second runs

On the theme of turbos you could turbo the a12. There's been some pretty impressive results from turbocharging a stock a12! You might even pick all the parts off this forum to bolt on!

He's got a 120y no fire wall mods or tunnel mods required.

CA good for efi but easy conversion for emissions and engineering is L even lz or z. Pre 86 is easier especially in pre 73 cars
