abjustable castor rods

just wanted to know what everyone makes the adjustable castor rods out of do yo use s13 ones ?? and why do some people use s13 lca's ??? and one more question what do bmp steer spacers do ?? might be some stupid questions but any help would be great.

people usually change to late 120y castors with a stanza or 200b strut upgrade (they suit the larger lower control arms)

you can turn more thread on them to allow them to be adjusted for extra castor, but they are often not straight to start with and the thread can get shallow when machining it.

We have been using 120y with extra thread for a few years in the rally car, but we have snapped a couple and bent a couple, so that arn't super robust after being modified

to use s13 castor rods im pretty certain you need to change the front mount for the castor completely by cutting off the original brackets and welding s13 ones to the chassis(which is not allowed on a rally car)

bump steer spacers are to correct the steering geometry after lowering your car excessively, 3 inches? on the front of a 1200

it is not ideal for super dooper handeling to have the lower control arms reaching a point where they are parallel to the ground, this only happens if you have lower the car a fair amount

Maddat make castors that are adjustable they are also made of hardened steel and cost $270 plus but if you have the $$ are well worth it, they do however need you to open the hole in the original mounting point as they are a lot thicker

if your the sort of person who likes super low and dished wheels with stretch tires etc etc, you obviously choose looks over handling and therefore have no need for bump steer spacers.... (said tongue in cheek)

true that!

although i must add, as im a fan of the lowered look and even done it on my car.... it's worth wild shortening struts, getting coilovers, adding bump steer spacers and all that jazz, isnt it?

my theory (now) is that if i want that low look then i need to do what i can to keep the handling the best it can be considering.

does that make sense?

to my mind... and guessing numbers for the sake of an example

lowering a car excessively reduces handling 10%
having large dished wheels reduces handling 5%
buying cheap tyres and stretching them reduces handling 30%
using second hand or 40year old shocks reduces handling 20%
using 40year old rubbers/bushes in your suspension reduces handling 5%
having standard seat belts and seats reduces handling 10% (cause you fall out of the seat trying to drive it)


adding bump steer spacers to a super low car improves handling 2%

you tell me if that sounds worth it?

when i say slammed yeh they are down as low as they go but its not like im scrapping over cats eyes lol its still good ride height and i have all new nolathane bushes in the front. and dont have super dish with cheap tyres either still handles really well just my thoughts anyway just didnt really know what bump steers spacers where . saying that it would help to have them im guessing lol
