Having a box right at the end of the pipe is mostly looks, but might affect the sound a little. Currently I have a V8 muffler under the bed (tray) and a stainless cannon at the end. Sound is OK.

Ultimately for optimum performance I would put a resonator (small muffler) under the cab and a large muffler somewhere after that, wherever there is room. Generally the larger the muffler the quieter the exhaust. For maximum power at say 5000-6000 RPM you'd want a pipe to end about 33" from the valves. Easy way to end the pipe is use a resonator, because then whatever you put behind that point does not affect HP. You can fit huge or loud or quiet muffler at any spot after the resonator.

Congratulations.

You won't loose any power with a good exhaust system (but it will sound slower).

Get a 1.75" turbo-type muffler and 1.75 exhaust piping. Such as:
* Walker Super Turbo WLK-17771
* Dynomax 17771
* Magnaflow 11123 14" Stainless Steel (is it too long?)
* Borla XR-1 BOR-40483 Stainless Steel, 1.75 in, 2.25 out

A larger size pipe out the back doesn't matter, but for most power keep it to 1.75 from engine to muffler. This is a stock to mildly built A14.

Gasket kit arrived today, 15 mins later holy $hit I did not expect this much improvement on the performance, to be honest I couldant belive it when it started up and ran perfectly.

Its a tad loud, but that probably got somthing to do with the fact that thiers no exhaust system on thier yet lol.
I have a couple of questions though.
Firstly do you think that I would loose alot of performance once thiers a legal exhaust system on thier.
And secondly it would be a big help if anyone might be able to give me some sugestions on a good exhaust system to put on my car would be.

Hi guys, I have been doing some research on what exhaust system I am going to run with and I just wanted to run it past you to make sure I am thinking along the right lines.
The exhaust end of my extractor is 2 inch.
So would I be looking at a 2 inch pipe going through to a backbox and then a 2 inch tail pipe?
Or should I be looking at a 2.5 inch set up, I take it I have to run a backbox?
Basically looking for the best setup to get the most of of the extractor, as far as performance & sound is concerned but also keeping it legal as it has to go through a blue slip.
What would you guys suggest / Or what have you used?

Just trying to track down a exhaust / manifold gasket for my 1200 round port head, found lots of oval port gaskets but none for the round port.
