I used to work in the industry (admittedly a long time ago now!!) but this is outrageous. It's one of the first things he should have checked, and no f-ing way he could have checked it and it's 'magically' to the point of disintegration only a short time later.

I can't for the life of me see how he went to replace the turbo based on the symptoms you mentioned. It sounded 100% electrical.

When I was an apprentice, we used to get cars come into our shop (I was lucky to work at a place that was authorised dealer service centre for a bunch of high end european luxury cars, so it was high tech stuff for that period in time compared to the locally made stuff) and we'd often get cars come in on tray/tow trucks from other garages. What was embarassing was we'd often get the darn things running before they were off the tray (amazingly things like fuel pump fuses and the like seemingly weren't checked).

There's absolutely no way he has a right to charge you for his incompetence. It just doesn't work that way. He's entitled to charge SOME money for tracking down the issue, and for labour and parts costs to replace THE ACTUAL FAULTY STUFF but he can't just keep 'flipping a coin' and getting you to pay parts and labour whilst he replaces things seemingly AT RANDOM until he gets it right.

there are mini frankfurts and wasabi peas in there too :)

Just to show peeps how retarded some places are even at wreckers like pick a tart they had a Daihatsu Mira "J" with all the papers indicating 39,000kms from new not to mention it looked like it just came out of the show room so I asked the office why it was processed and they said they get more money in parts from it and it probably doesnt run or engine seized. Anyway bought it took it it home, put petrol in her, battery, cut a new key from Omega in Yarraville, new oil, filter and coolant and started up within 3 or 5 seconds and purrs like a kitten.

Perfectly running immaculate inside out Mira Tudor hatch with 3 cylinders sucking from 12 valves SOHC fuel injected 660cc making 55hp of terror just dumped into a line at the wrecking yard that could have sold for at least minimum 2000 bucks for its amazing showroom condition. Cost me 350 by the way.

Peeps in all areas of automotive industry that work with cars all day with little love and plenty of chefs always amass chaos and waste. Its no Datsun but has a nice "D" logo on the grille :)

Just a few days ago, I didnt think it was worth more in parts as few own these rare little buzz boxes these days and it sat there for a month before I decided to take it even after 50% off all engines week. When I saw it again I just went to the counter and asked how much "350" was the answer while a month back it was "780" after I sounded too eager. I just put it down to discrimination of small cars in that area where most drive taxis or 4wd and I got lucky going later without finding damage on the car.

Communication is a 2 edged sword when dealing with cars and people.
