Sounds like not a big deal after engineering as you can just say to a copper you are trying a new method to see where the knock is coming from after all they are mainly interested in speeding and hoons these days.

Well I havent really done much over the last 2 weeks but I did get my turbo drain to sump sorted. I went to pirtek and baught some steel -10 fittings and welded them to the existing flange and return pipe. Then I made the return hose out of a little left over braided fuel hose. I used -10 because it flows the same ammount as the origional turbo drain if not a little more as there is no kink like what what was in the origional steel drain tube.

looking good. did you smooth out the gearbox housing? good thing about e85 is it runs cooler and shouldnt crack that stainless manifold.

Cheers oda70, yeh, I did smooth it out a little, I just removed some of the un-used castings and what not to help with the clearance in the tiny 1200 transmission tunnel, also removing allot of the castings and ribs helped in putting the engine and box in and out many times by reducing it snagging on the body. Thats good to hear about that stainless manifold and E85, it is just a cheapie.

Next step from here is to fab up a support bracket between the exhaust and the block to help support the weight of the turbo/exhaust dump pipe/exhaust manifold. Pictures to follow once its built.

Hey buddy.... Just had a read of ya build, nice work!! About the engineering of your car.. Here in Adelaide (well me at least). Lodged my build with transport sa.... Every modification I am going to do etc.... They came back to me with 2 pages of info stating what test needed to be done to the car etc for me to be able to rego it again.... Maybe look into it a little more yourself.... There would be nothing worse then building the car and getting knocked back.. Just thought I would let ya know...

Cheers for the heads up man. I'll make a phone call and see what's required but I don't think it's that bad but there is some paperwork to be done that's for sure.

What cracks the manifold is also the vibration due to being thin walled stainless steel so the weight of the turbo with engine shaking cracks them. Would be good to weld a bracket or steel arm to that blanking plate for the external BOV you are not using and secure it to the engine mount to stop shaking. Its a good area in the middle and will give good support if its bolted to the engine mount arms you use, looking good though!

D my good man, that exactly the plan, just bending up a little bit of steel at the moment to trial fit and if I am happy with it then all systems go. Also to strengthen up these manifolds some people weld little gussets between the top of each header tube and the flange. I might just stick with the support arm for now as TIG is not really my thing yet but give me time and anything is possible.
