I know most of you are not believers [electric superchargers] but i found an interesting article in the japanese performance mag for Nov '12. I think it's just a matter of time and this thing will be perfected. Anyway for the petrol-heads interested you can get some info from a company working on these superchargers. name ;; Controlled Power Technologies makes for some interesting reading.

Electric Superchargers on ebay are bullshit.
But if you get a electronic fan spinning fast enough, It'll create ram air which is in effect a turbo.

May not be far off from it, but with so many copies and #OOPS#ty versions on the internet, I don't think the fad will catch on.

Yeah I was 50% agreeing with your post lol. There are definitely kits available that will increase hp, its just that they have a bad name with the fakes out there that no one buys them.

As soon as a tuning house decides to use a electric fan, it will catch on like a fire!

OK just thought you gonna chat about the ebay goodies --- i'm open for any new developments and like to see whats on offer. if you read a few p/graphs then you will see it's not so good but they are getting there. This is the same as e-cars [white zombie] they said he would never match mech cars and now he is there.this s/charger only works short periods but i reckon they will improve

Well over a year ago I read about an American start up company using an electrically driven roots blower. You can make your own with an electric motor, motor controller and a roots blower (or cetrifical super charger) with enough stuffing around.

The key thing is you need several kW of power to drive the blower. Not too hard to estimate. FOr an A15 you're talking 5-7kW to drive the blower at the top end of the RPM range (stock). WHat usually stops the project there is that at 12V you're talking about almost 600 amps. THen you need batteries to supply that for long enough to accelerate and so on. Pretty quickly the more traditional methods of super charging look pretty good.

Controlled Power Technologies of UK has a real supercharger not a "fan".

It is production ready. It only take 350 amps, similar to a starter under heavy load.

At 350A the boost is going to drop off once the revs pick up which is fine if you only want a boost off the line. If I remember correct the current draw of your starter peaks at around the 300 mark when you first engage it. Pretty sure it drops down below 100 once it's actually turning over. Point is most standard batteries will discharge pretty quickly at that current draw and so you'd want a bigger if not additional batteries.

Yes, technically workable and technically makes variable boost control on a supercharger possible. Just need a motor driver.

After seeing what some hydraulic specialists are going with the home projects and different oils, I hope the hydraulic supercharger becomes more popular than electric cause as mentione battery power is the only way to get an electric SC to work properly and plenty are needed for sustained boost.

Using an electric motor on a Roots blower is like bolting a modern engine to an 1890s automobile. Roots blowers were invented in the 1800s and are the most inefficient type.

Controlled Power Technologies is using an efficient centrifugal blower, just like a turbo does.
