120Y manual conversion - advice and parts needed...

G'day. I'm new to the forum and to Dattos. I've bought a cheap roughy a few months back and I'm loving it, but...
It's an auto and I'm not a fan - I've got a second A12 with a 4 speed box that was included in the sale, but, so far as I can tell, I need a crossmember, a tailshaft, pedal box and clutch cable to complete the conversion.
Am I on the right track here and if so, what's the best way to source the necessary bits and not spend a squillion doing it?
Advice and help sourcing parts gratefully accepted.

Yes.

Tips:
* Remove the thin shim from the crankshaft with the auto
* Insert a spigot bush if one is not already there

I did a manual conversion on a GX 210 about 6 months ago, this is what you need:

+ Manual pedal box assembly
+ Gearbox, Clutch, flywheel & approproate bolts
+ Clutch cable, and the firewall guide plate
+ New spigot bush for end of your crank shaft
+ Manual Drive shaft
+ Gearbox X-member mount (auto one don't fit)
+ Gearbox lever assembly, rubber boot & knob etc

Remember to bridge out your auto inhibitor wires to get your starter/ignition system to work!

Also there are 3 different tailshafts:
* for H145 diff (1974 only)
* for H150 diff (japan built)
* for M68 diff (aussie built sedan)

I did this conversion on a 120y
only i used a 60 series 5 speed, I cant remember exactly. I did use an auto cross member. but i pulled the top half (part that mounts to gearbox) off of the bottom half (part that mounts to car,, seperated by rubber bushes and a bolt each side) and spun the top half around. this worked pretty good with the 60 box but im not sure how it would go with a 56 4 speed. also had to grind a notch out in order to get speedo cable to go into the box.
I had to do this because the auto tunnels dont have provisions for the regular manual cross member.
but in my opinion. if your going to keep the car, its well worth it and improves the car soo much.

Depends on the year of the 120Y.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but im about to do this conversion tomorrow and got a few questions.

Remember to bridge out your auto inhibitor wires to get your starter/ignition system to work!

What wires are the inhibitor wires? Do you recall the colours? Also what wires is for the reverse lights?
I can see the auto has a round 7 or 8 pin plug and the manual only has about 4 wires (going from memory as I havnt got them in front of me)

Has anyone got a wiring diagram or can anyone shed some light to what wires connect with each other?

second-
From reading this thread Im thinking that the manual gearbox X-member wont bolt on to a auto car? as theres no bolt holes for a manual X-member? Is this correct?

Just want to get all the info before I do to swap. Im picking up a parts car tonight which has the manual box and a good strong engine so Im just swapping it all over into my shell (originally auto) I know I need the gearbox X-member and tail shaft just the wiring has me confused haha

Any help will be awesome! :)

For wiring colors, see Inhibitor Switch

Thanks heaps!!

Just done a last prep for the car to get it ready for the engine/gearbox swap and thought I could just swap the wiring loom over?
On my car there are 3 plus just before the gromet in the firewall under the dash. One goes to the rear of the car and 2 into the engine bay (one for wiper motor ect and one for the engine loom) Thinking I should just be able to take the 2 that go into the engine bay out and plug the ones from the donor car in?

Im guessing they would fit? same me stuffing around finding and bridging wires.

I could be completely wrong and the looms could be different, but I dont see why they would be.

Here a photo of what I mean-

There are about a dozen different B210 wiring harnesses. Each year differs and trim differs. It might work.

But easier to jump the wires in the automatic harness. Simple. You can do it down the by transmission at the inhibitor harness: connect the two black wires together, and connect the two red wires to the manual gearbox's reverse light switch.

Quote:
Inhibitor Switch Wires generic
* Starter circuit: two BY wires (black with yellow stripe)
Should have continuity only in P and N position
* Reverse lamp circuit: two RB wires (red with black stripe)
Should have continuity only in REV position

Green arrows points to reverse lamp switch
