yeah, me either! I don't understand how it was all fine last Thursday when I drove to work, then just stopped working. Whack another gear stick in and it's all good. But I'll take it!

My old mate Rob aka Datsun Yoda asked if I had the right shifter in it. Seems these boxes are fussy about the gate locations and some shifters are slightly longer under the pivot point moving it too far. Put the old straight shifter in and all good again. Feeling a little silly but relieved! lol

sounds like the shift fork pin sheared or came out. Might be an easy fix?

Thought I'd take it for a run this morning over Mt Glorious, but it has decided since Friday that it no longer wants to go into reverse! So I pushed it out of the garage (it's uphill - took two goes to get it over the hill lol) and off I went. It drove great, handles well, temp is no problem up the steep mountains, but it wouldn't shift into 5th either... Bloody thing was perfect when I drove it to work on Thursday and tuned it up Friday arvo. Now refuses to go into reverse or 5th. Oh well, I have a 71B 5spd in the shed - 3rd time lucky hopefully! lol

Had a bit of daylight left when I got home, so I de-choked the carb and leaned the idle/low speed out a fair bit. Much better now :)
Also bolted the stock steering wheel back on. When I was driving it around yesterday, I decided the deep dish rally wheel really didn't suit the character of the car.

I see what you're mean in that 2nd photo, but the top hose is OK. Must just be the way the shadows fall on it in that pic.
Choke is there but not connected, and like you say it's not really needed here in QLD - we're all rugged up because its only hitting about 20degrees - bloody freezing! This one is running pretty rich at the moment anyway. I probably won't worry about this carb, leave it as is until I get around to the Hitachis.
You've got some goodies there for the beige Sunny! She'll be a good thing

It could be just an optical illusion, but it seems to me that the top hose is slightly squashed in the curves. Maybe a little more off the front section connecting to the radiator to ease this. Isn't the choke connected? Does that mean it has an electric choke, or somebody removed the mechanism, or simply that you don't need a choke in tropical Queensland.
Sounds to me like you've put together a pretty good car. Gives me the motivation to get working on the old Biegemobile & fit it with the L20B with 86.5 mm pistons & a 76 degree cam, & a R30 Stumpy box & a H190 diff with LSD centre & the...But it's just above freezing & there's always the weekend.

The Stanza top hose arrived yesterday, just needed to be shortened about 10mm. Now it's all done! Drove it to work today to celebrate completion of the engine conversion and give it a good test run in traffic. It idles nice and lumpy and drives well - cool old school cruiser basically done now. I still want to fit the twin Hitachis, but that can wait a while - I'll enjoy driving it as is for a while before doing any more work on it.
