These look like A12T hitachis, A14T hitachis had electric chokes and triangular inlets

Yeah, ram tubes definitely help. Unfortunately they rip you off for SU ram tubes - a single SU ram tube costs as much as a pair of them for a weber. I'll get these A14 Hitachis up and running right so I can sell them as a going concern. I'll probably make a filter setup for them. I like tinkering around with stuff like that.

Picked up the Stanza last night. Pretty happy with that deal. I might keep an eye out for a cheap B310 Sunny to swap the rest of the driveline into. I have a lead on cheap to free L20 as well. I could just about put an l series Sunny together with the parts I'll have left over!

If you can get some small ram tubes like the original air cleaner, it does improve throttle response. I had an air cleaner made up for the twin 'su's using an XC falcon air filter as a pattern. A friend made up a top & bottom plate to fit the filter, with the necessary holes to suit. I then went to either Finer Filter or Unifilter, I forget which & they already had a foam filter to suit, giving lots of clearance to the ram tubes. Sold the whole lot before getting a chance to try it out. Good score on the Stanza, you probably wont be needing to finish the air cleaner now.

Shame your not closer, I'd be picking parts off that car.

Had a look at a heavily worked L20 this morning, but after having a think about it while playing with the A series carbs and doing some sums, I've decided it makes more sense to stick to a mild L16 as per the original plan, and just make it a nice cruiser. I don't want this one to become a track car.

So I ended up buying a rear-ended and rusty Stanza instead. I'll use the L16, 5spd, engine and gearbox mounts, clutch master, slave and lines, radiator hoses and the alloy radiator - if it will fit... The rest I'll part out.
Motor and box have apparently been rebuilt a few years ago - who knows, but there was no smoke or anything, so I can whack it in and worry about mods later. Got to arrange a car trailer to pick it up tomorrow night.

removed the 32/36 and Rowland manifold and boxed them up to send to the new owners. So I started swapping the L series Hitachis on this arvo. I figure I may as well get them up and running before doing the L series conversion. They'll be worth some money that way, and be easier to sell than a bunch of parts...
The A series manifold has the carbs 15mm closer together, so a quick cut and shut on the linkage and adding a cable pull wheel or lever will do it. I cut the heat shield down the middle and overlapped it. It clears the extractors, so that's all good. I'll rivet that together to avoid rattles. Also going to delete the pollution gear. I decided to use the L series 16mm bakelite spacers instead of the 4mm A series ones that came with the manifold. And I'll probably make up some air filters from alloy sheet - reckon they'll be better and cheaper than off the shelf ones.

haha Might be possible if I weren't going away for a few days over easter. Should have some time to play around a little - at least clean and paint all those parts on Monday. Maybe add a leaf to the springs as well.

I know a lawyer who would tell you to contest that - don't let them get away with that rubbish! Unfortunately, I think he only says that because he's of the opinion that the money is better in his pocket than in the govt coffers... either way, it costs us plebs! But you can try a letter - didn't work for me, but apparently some people get fines cancelled that way.

4 day weekend coming up Harry, surely you can score the rest by Friday & have it finished by Monday.(Don't laugh, this could happen). Seems I'll be swapping the engine in my Sunny wagon back to it's stock A15 after the A12 dropped onto half a cylinder going to work yesterday morning. To add to the problem, I was then caught by radar accelerating out of a school zone in the replacement car (Sunny Coupe with an all or nothing A15), got done for 50ks in a 40k zone, with the gun eventually showing 70k's, but it was a 70 zone by then. & my uncle was caught by the same set up when he came to meet the tow truck taking the wagon home. As I was wearing brand new underwear yesterday, I'll think I'll burn that pair, they're obviously bad luck.

woohoo! Found a late model auto sedan being wrecked on Facebook in Brisbane. Picked up the big Borg Warner diff, auto tailshaft to fit the L series box and another set of leaves to make up a stiffer set. Also scored a rust free bonnet.

Brendan who bought the 2dr sedan gave me some of the spares back to help out: Stanza 63A 5spd, the 260Z King springs which were good for road use with the L series conversion, and a bunch of other stuff he's replaced in the 2dr: speakers and mp3 amp, gauges etc. Top bloke!

weighbridge says it weighs 815kg with 1/2 tank. 25kg more than the 2dr sedan did when it was stock. 2dr sedans were the lightest model - no carpets, radio, clock, tach etc. Not too bad a weight penalty for all those luxuries and style! :)
