130km drive today over a couple of mountains to bed the rings in. Car ran perfect. So torquey and smooth to drive :)

The Kings springs are sagging under the turbo L20 weight. Might have to whack the 120Y strut tops back in there to raise it up a bit.

Nope kings aren't great springs IMHO. Lovells would be better.

got my 205/60x13 semis fitted today :)
And sent in my entry for the next hillclimb in a couple of weeks. Not expecting it to be fast at this stage - it's really just a shakedown run to see what's what. I'll try to get it engineered next week. That will leave me time to weld the diff up before the hillclimb.

l18_b110,

u definately have alot of experience of racing under your belt.kudos to u.
im hoping one day to join u guys.
I wish there was an event that let all datsun 1200 members race against each other every year..even a camp out..Benny made an effort to come down to vic last time.

nice semi 13s u got there.any idea where i would source some Front 200-500/13 and Rear 225-500/13 in oz?
also i might be able to source a nismo lsd diff for u depending on price ur willing to pay as compared to locked diff.

cheers

This link should help you out with the tyre question: http://www.motorsportzone.com.au/?page=tyre_directory&size_d=13&tyre_type=1

Sorted a few things on the weekend.
Inlet pipe has been blowing off under full boost, so we made it a bit longer and tacked a few welds around each end to give the hoses something to grip onto. Now holds full boost, and goes pretty well! :) And still no hint of pinging at 25degrees total timing. The original intention for this build was to build another budget car as fast as my old L18 1200 coupe. I reckon that's achieved. Anything more is a bonus.

Also did a few things to get it ready for CAMS events. Modified the crankcase breather pipe to get it away from the turbo dump pipe, and fitted a catch can. Fitted extinguisher and harness.

Couldn't find my 120Y strut tops to raise the front up. I might have thrown them out :( I might get some different springs instead - I was opriginally planning to use Gemini coils anyway. not sure it needs anything that stiff with the big front swaybar though. It corners nice and flat the way it is.

After welding the extension on the intake pipe, I had to repaint it. Didn't have any red left and decided to slap a coat of grey on it and the rocker cover to make it a bit more understated.

Just got off the phone to King Springs - awesome service! I'm going with 260Z lowered springs. Should be 30mm higher and are a little bit stiffer than the springs I've got:
KDFL57 120Y low: 150lb/in
KDFL04 260Z low: 175lb/in

Still very low spring rates for a track car, but the Maddat 22mm swaybar is way stiffer than the 120Y 20mm bar I used on the previous L18 1200. Generally a 22mm bar should be about 45% stiffer than a 20mm bar. This one would be a bit stiffer again on the hardest setting.

I had cut Gemini springs in the L18 1200 which we calculated to be roughly 300lb. 175lb is roughly 40% softer than that, so it will have 40% softer springs and 45% stiffer sway bar. Sounds like a reasonable starting point anyway.

Info on Whiteline 3 hole adjustable swaybars (assuming the MadDat bar is the same idea); the middle hole represents the advertised bar diameter. Each other hole is effectively a 1mm sway bar change softer or stiffer. So my current setting is full stiff, which is equivalent to a 23mm swaybar, or 75% stiffer than 120Y 20mm bar.

3 hole swaybar gives you 5 levels of adjustment - ie 5 different pin position combinations. And for my example, the 22mm 3 hole adj bar vs the 20mm 120Y bar
1-1 =23mm =75% stiffer than 20mm
1-2 =60% stiffer than 20mm
2-2 =22mm =46% stiffer than 20mm
2-3 =33% stiffer than 20mm
3-3 =21mm =22% stiffer than 20mm

You're running the maddat bar huh? can you still use the original bash plate with it or does the swaybar or the sump interfere? I couldn't get that particular answer of Scott or whoever I asked.

dunno, I haven't refitted it. If I spot it lying around I'll check if it fits.
