Its 5spd manual, but I'll be using a 260Z box. Where the shifter pops up isn't much of a problem, but it would be nice if it does come through the factory hole. The tailshaft shortening is far more of a pita...
I'll be having a look at transplanting the 910 engine x-member and rack in too. Fingers crossed...
No thoughts of building a 2.4 grunter, but Z20 long rods and short pistons would be nice...

Kietch was telling me standard bluebird springs give the Y a decent offroad capability if on a budget, but since you're not racing it offroad just consider the struts and control arms anyway since that would plop you with 3+ degrees of negative camber, probly closer to 5-6 at a guess.

lowered the 120y yesterday afternoon with a combination of 1200 strut tops - which give 30mm lowering and Kings lowered springs which also give 30mm lowering. Car is now 60mm lower at the front and loooks much better. Doing the rear this afternoon...

You need to open up the centre hole in the strut tower from 80mm to 94 to fit the 1200 top in there. I marked it out and cut it carefully with a 1mm cutting disc in the angle grinder. Photo shows the material removed.

Thanks guys.
I put the original A12, that also came with the car, back in a couple of weeks ago. I was just going to keep driving it around while I decide 'what next' for the car, but that engine turned out to be pretty smokey. So I guess 'what next' is dropping the L20 in there.
I drove it in the Bluebird when I bought it. Runs great, no smoke or anything. Had a quick measure tonight and it looks like the stock carb and air cleaner might just fit under the bonnet. So I can drop it in and start driving it as it is before doing more mods as time/money permits.

I bought my Stanza 63a 5spd back last week, to make the conversion easier and cheaper than using the Z box I was planning to use. The dogleg pattern is pretty cool too. I have a soft spot for these gearboxes, having had one in my old L18 1200 for years...

I pulled the A12 engine and box back out on Saturday arvo, so it's ready to start dummy fitting the L20. Also removed the puny H150 diff and leaf springs and cleaned up the underbody. There was a bit of surface rust around the place, so I spent a fair bit of time under there with a wire brush. It's ready for a coat of subframe/chassis black this weekend...
Cleaned up the BW68 diff that will be going in as well, and gave that a coat of chassis black. Did the same with the springs. Presentation does count for something when it comes time for engineering. First impressions matter when it goes up on that hoist.

I finally got motivated to finish painting underneatht he car last Sunday, and then decided to throw the A12 out of my blue coupe into this thing so I can drive it around for a while, since I don't have alot of time to do the L20 conversion at the moment. Swapped the diff back to the original H145, and put the enhaust back under the car. rRmoved the engine and box from the coupe and bolted it into the sedan. Took the manifolds off to fit the extractors, and had it all back together and running that night. I've been driving it to work this week, which is the first time I've driven it since the lowering - handles pretty good without being too firm. No scrubbing at all, and plenty of bump travel.
Driving it makes me want to get cracking on the L series though!
A few more gratuitous photos, including the more patina'd side ;) back and interior...
