It was for sale - having too much fun at the moment. But anything's for sale for the right price ;)

I've gone cold on the flares. I like the stock body/sleeper look. Flares will make it look too racey. I'll give it a go with the bigger exhaust and sway bar first and see how it goes.

moar photos - just because

I'm definitely not going that far! I like the filled guards and tough wheels look, just want to keep the stock body lines and stuff. The front lip is pretty subtle. I broke it at the dirt sprint (knew I should have taken it off with all those witches hats around lol) but should be able to fix again.

I realised I could get the same gearing change as a 4.11 diff with a set of 215/50x13 semis for the Hotwires, with the added bonus of 15mm lower ride height, lower RC, softer compound rubber and more of it! They're on sale at the moment too... but I've spent enough this month :(

3" exhaust is done. Looks fat and sounds a bit better, but no louder than before. Merge from wastegate into the dump pipe is 11ty x betterer, so it might make slightly more power on full boost in higher gears. Feels like it might have better response too - but hard to tell on the street. Wait for the next go at the hillclimb to know for sure.

Got the 15x8 steelies too, and fitted up the Achillies 123S I had lying around. Looks even more 'junkyard dog' now lol

Well, I sold the 120Y to a mate from Mt Cotton Hillclimb, Brendan. His brother Shane runs a very fast 1200 coupe (NA SR20) at Mt Cotton, and Brendan has been pedalling his daily 180SX very hard around Mt Cotton for a couple of years as well. The 120Y will continue to run at Mt Cotton and Lakeside, just under a new owner. These guys love their Datsuns and other classic Japanese tin, so it's gone to a very good home and I'm glad it will continue going hard at Mt Cotton. I'll be able to see it in action from outside and hopefully help them continue to develop it. Not that they need any help, if Shane's 1200 is anything to go by! He holds the class record for Modified under 2L Road Reg with a 47.12! And Brendan looks like a pretty handy steerer as well. So I'm pretty sure it's in better hands than mine now!

It would have been nice to have another couple of events with it at Mt Cotton to see if I could get it down to the 49s I wanted, but Brendan is the perfect guy to sell it to. I'll go back to running the Soarer at these events - there's more time left in that yet too. I'll keep the thread updated with Brendan's hillclimb progress in the mighty Y - or see if he wants to sign up here and start his own thread.

Congratulations. It's always sad to see them sold, but sound like the new owner is the right one.

hey bud is that Shane Merrick you sold your car to? Just asking cos i still got an old set of h/caps i was going to sell BUT then big surprise -- shipping is about 5 times the price of the goods.I eventually said he can get it free -- just gotta wait for s/body to come over on holiday.Anyway if it is i've still got them all wrapped in a box. -- not going to pay 1g but i'll still give it to s/body that goes to aus.

Thought I'd post some updates of what Brendan's been up to with the Y.

Wilwood front brake upgrade. Should be slightly better! Has to use min 15" wheels now but. The old 250mm Silvia discs didn't have to braking power to lock the wheels when the semi slicks were on - I called it Datsun ABS :P The new brake combo is lighter too, despite the larger disc. So that should be a very useful upgrade.

And a couple of Action shots -

First one from the final hillclimb of last year with the gas shocks I bought just before selling it. That seemed to have stiffened up the rear enough to stop it from getting up on 2 wheels.

Second one is from the test and tune day last weekend, trying out the new brakes. He's getting up to speed pretty well now too. Only a couple of tenths off my best time, and this time he was 2 wheeling again by the last couple of runs, but it doesn't do it as badly as it used to. The photographers missed that unfortunately
