Yeah Buddy still got it .
Son Has had it down to 31.8 at Winton with the old turbo .New turbo has another 100nm of torque . Only got to drive it for a couple of minutes but the power is stupid . Did do Bathurst hillclimb in it which was pretty cool .
Should do a bit of a post on it but downsizing pics for this site is a pain

What is the 4.88 diff ratio like? Am toying with the idea of a hilux LSD for a very heavily modified a15 behind a 60 series 5 speed

31.8 wow thats chugging along! would be a pretty busy lap i reckon Bob!

dazza the 4.88 works well for me. a close ratio gearbox would be better to keep it on the revs but the 4.88 does well
with the standard s14 synchro box. it pulls nice out of corners in 3rd and pulls hard all the way through 4th & 5th.

the old engine topped out at 205kph at 7800rpm (limiter) so this engine with a few more revs should see around 220kph but ill
have to wait till i get to phillip island one day.

my diff has a kaaz lsd in it, i had trouble with my old 1200ute on the track with the standard hilux 4wd lsd centre
could never get it to behave on the track but that could be down to car (ute) setup also

i reckon the hilux is a great diff with lots of ratio choice but prob not warranted behind an a15, they're heavy!

Oh yes gotcha. Yeah bit unsure of differential options at the moment. Very heavily modified a15 (call it an a16 when finished) full built motor, dellortos etc. Have the standard 1200 sedan diff in at the moment but would like an LSD (Not going to build an engine like that and not have some fun with the clutch pedal!!) Any recommendations? Dont want to be overkill but I also dont want to hear crunching noises when I give the clutch a kick

Given that you live in NZ regretfully the Toyota AE86 LSD/ diff head option to slip into an H165 Roadstar ute diff is difficult and expensive.
The best option in my opinion is to go the little Ford way- Mk 1 Cortina if you can find one is the way to go, then any small Ford diffhead will go in-Anglia, early Cortina, Escort. Ratios are plentiful from 5.3-3.5 and Palmside down here in Chch sell brand new LSD's for them from around $1200 as well as Quaiffe axles should you wish to really beef things up.

Yeah only problem im seeing is that the AE86 is now a collectors item so Im guessing diffs will be one hell of a price. But ill keep an eye out, as well as the mk1 cortina route.
