Hi guys, thought I'd start a thread on my 1200 ute. Bought August last year, for a nice little sum of $4000, unregistered, dirty, running a little rough but quite straight. Even came with a set of 13x5.5 jellybeans. I was lucky enough to know a brief history on the car, (I'm an electrician on our local council, ballina) and the painter who was there for about three years whilst I was there owned it. he was the second owner and had it for about 20 years. Even used it as a work vehicle for some of the time employed with council.

Will keep some more updates coming tomorrow, along with my other build http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=52555&viewmode=flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0&start=0 im too tired now to keep going.

Get photo bucket account, better than trying to get 200kb on your phone.

Since I bought the ute I have put on some genuine guard mirrors from bprojects, look a treat!

Also chased up four standard rims, which will be powdercoated with some painted whitewalls or pinstripes on them, as well as some original hubcaps if I can source them. Plan is to have it looking real low and old school. Have fitted the back up atm still havent powdercoated the front. Thinking probably a red pinstripe on the rim and a fatter whitewall type stripe on the tyre.

Had to do a bit of a bodgy on the exhaust as you can see in this thread 1200 Ute exhaust

Will be putting a new exhaust on as my next job, getting way too over it now. Will have to chop the 120y extractors to be a bit shorter, so the exhaust will be as close to the body as possible, although I would love to go a stainless lobster weld extractor setup, I dont have the skills to complete it. Even stainless exhaust would be nice but the cost is up there. Something like the south yokohama corp sell would be mint.

I have also got the interior stripped at the moment because of a few leaks. Found that the windscreen leaked, so put a new windscreen in, new bailey chaanels, new quarter window rubber and frame on drivers side to seal everything up. All other rubbers will be replaced down the track. That stopped and rubbers leaking but there was still water getting in, turns out the seam where the tray meets the cab is rusted so after stripping that back and sandblasting the seam im thinking of panel welding a bit of 10x15mm .9 sheet folded into an angle in there rather than trying to weld it all up. Will still look quite factory as well. Once that is done the rest of the tray will be stripped an resprayed, already have all the removal panels sandblasted and sprayed matte black. i chose to go with matte black as the ute will have a new tonneua fitted and probably a bit of carpet in the back, plus im unsure of what colour i would like the ute down the track.

Have also lowered the back of the ute, just flipped the second spring on top, and kept the weight bearing spring in the pack and put it back in, sat it nicely but wouldnt mind it lower. Will be pulling out again to powdercoat the springs and replace all bushes etc when i find some suitable shocks, the one in it at the moment are shot. Will need some shorter travel ones though (anyone know of any) thinking maybe even konis would be nice. Will be going lower as well thinking maybe a 1 - 1.5 inch block in there will get it where i want it, without having to spend too much on the setup. Will get a pic up of where it sits soon!

So thats about where im up to at the moment, keep you posted.

Quick update on the ute, yesterday fixed some rust ion the tray area where the cab joins to the tray floor, sand blasted and wirebrushed the seam, rust killed, primed and the put a piece of 0.9mm folded sheet in the there folded it at 20mmx10mm right angles and put it in there with panel/production adhesive. Will be sealed with sikaflex once fully set. Then time to paint the tray.

Have the ute booked in for an exhuast to be installed, although I'm highly tempted on trying to get a hold of an arms engineering exhaust, japanese made and exits out the side. Looks good but i dont think ill have the money for it.

Josh
