Or just use a Nissan H190. Some are shorter than a 1200 diff so need no shortening.

The biggest cost in "shortening" is extras that are really not part of shortening: Brake rebuild or disc-brake conversion, new LSD, new gearsets, new bearings etc.

Mad Dat sells a shortened R31 diff with disc brakes for Datsun 1200 that is only $2345. So that is the top-quality price. Mad Dat Diff.

Datrotor you can go De Dion using Volvo 360 de dion tube and volvo shafts and 300zx brakes then run an R200 they are 7.8 inches and $100 then just worry about shortening cv or axles much easier in every way to source and better setup.

Thanks. Got it, chamfer for a butt-weld.

* Shorten the axle tubes and weld them
* Get new custom-length axles ($800/pair)
* Drill the axles for the desired wheel bolt pattern
* new bearings for the new axles
* Cut and reweld (or add) spring plates
