Tech wiki has all the info re gearbox strengths
it you spend 10k and get the NA engine to 150hp I'm assuming you'll spend the $ sorting driveline.

As a minimum and keeping it simpler with datsun bits get a H165 diff and 60 series transmission. Tech wiki covers most of this including rough $ for HP check it out on the left

I dont know anything about b310s DD or one of the other gurus can advise what b310s come with standard

B310 comes with H150 rear axle assembly. In my opinion it will be strong enough for a 150HP naturally aspirated A15. But not strong enough for a 150HP 1.8 liter.

Why change the crankshaft? A15 crank is very strong.

To make 150HP the camshaft will have to be changed (unless using a turbo). To make 150HP you'll need to rev to 8500 RPM, and the stock camshaft peaks at either 5600 or 6000 (depending on which year A15). With peak torque at 7000 RPM, the torque will be relatively low.

Yes, the A12 gearbox is light duty, while the A14/A15 gearbox is heavy duty.

The A14/A15 gearbox and the B310 differential are strong enough for a street car, as long as you aren't doing full-throttle starts in 1st gear I don't think it will break even with a high-revving A15 at 150HP. If you intend to race it, then the diff should be upgraded to H165.

150HP Turbo can be done for $1000 and a lot of work. Start with a good A15, use stock block and head. No need to open up the engine or add heavy-duty parts (it doesn't need to rev very high). The key is in fabricating nice intake & exhaust and tuning correctly. If you you have to pay someone to fabricate the system yes it will $$$. Sykine acheived 150HP A12 with stock block, stock headgasket & stock A14 cylinder head. And very careful tuning. This will have much more torque than a naturually aspirated 150HP A15, so if turboing it upgrade both the gearbox and the differential.

I assume you are talking flywheel horsepower right.

You tell me ... it is one of the problems with saying "I want 150 HP" or "my engine made 150 HP" -- flywheel HP (as all car manufacturers use and some racing teams use) or rear-wheel HP?

sikyne's 160dw dyno graph

Keep in mine that a 150 HP SCCA A15 race engine does not last more one racing season. The high revs are very hard on the engine -- the rings wear out if nothing breaks.

Imo 150 rear wheel horsepower from a NA a-series for the average Datsun guy is not going to happen, especially if the budget id tight. 150 flywheel hp maybe, even then it will take decent money. I still think turbo is the most straight forward way to get the big numbers. sikyne is the benchmark in this area. Big numbers from an a-series that was assembled basically from std oem parts with exception of a suitable camshaft. A big effort was put into engine management, intake and exhaust to get those power numbers though.

I don't want to turbo it, i'm looking for that natural a series sound. :) i know you may think its dumb but that's what i like about these engines. The raw clean sound of a properly built engine. I dont mind if i cant get 150hp out of it, i'm just looking for a small street race car with enough power to be fun :) if i wanted to trash everyone on the street i would fit an sr20det. So how much bhp do you think i can achieve by let's say: side drafts, mild cam, intake and extractors, and maybe samo head porting? Thx again :) i really appreciate your replies and trying to help me :D

Btw is the diff that goes on to the b310 with the a12 the same as the one on the b310 with the a15? Another thing, should i keep the flywheel from the a12? A guy told me its just as good and it will reduce significant weight. I really dont know. Pls help me out :)
