Maybe check the discharge pressure with a gauge. It might be passing on the inlet check valve when pressure is applied on the discharge stroke of the diaphragm.

Dude what we do [but this is diesel] disconnect at fuel pump and before tank --blow fuel pipe out with airline.IF tank has drain plug then drain into small tin --that way you can see if there is dirt in the tank [vehicle must stand for a while to let all the dirt settle at the bottom]Use thin film of grease on fuel filter rubber [if it's tin filter -throw away] glass filters can chip and crack and cause air leak/air lock.I would as a last resort lend a fuel pump and just check if it pumps --that way you'll know if your original pump is buggered. Our way of working ---never refuel when fuel truck is filling tanks at BP or shell cos that means the fuel is low at the petrol station and you don't know when last they have done a sludge test and believe me they also have dirt in the fuel [all at the bottom] just think about it when fuel pump kicks off and they say its empty use next pump

Have you tried to disconnect the fuel pump from the filter , then fill it directly though a small funnel.
Disconnect the fuel line from the carby and crank it over and see it it squirts
IE: prove its your fuel pump and not the carby or filter

MASSIVE EMBARRASSMENT!

Checked the pump with a gauge = 1 Lb at the outlet
Replaced the top part of the pump with another (took a pump off a later model Ute) = 2 Lb

Still not pumping fuel out the outlet

Bought 20 litres of fuel and put that in the tank and - funny how you need fuel in the tank to pump to the carby
anyway I got it started and he runs !..... KERMIT LIVES!

Fuel gauge doesn't work, wipers don't work, indicators don't blink - oh no ....ELECTRICS...

It's always the little things that hang you up. Your analytical mind was working on the hard stuff first!

Anyway, glad to hear Kermit has a heartbeat now.

Indicators was just the flasher can - fund another and they 'work'

would the reason some of the globes are extremely faint be that they might be the wrong wattage?

ALSO REAR W'Screen is IN!

Now to get those pesky windscreen wipers working and try to find the special nuts to hold them on.

Yes, for example if the dash globes (bulbs) are 1.7W but are supposed to be 3.4W they'll be 1/2 the brightness -- but both look exactly the same
