car wont.start... carby help please
Guest_
Ok I got that bolt out of engine and put every thing back together.
Went to start it.... Nothing but backfired from carb and wisps of white grey some out carb.

carb bowl was empty so I though stuffed carb, fuel, was leaking from,Axel pump any way.
Change carb and prime it so fuel Bowl full. Same thing.

I didn't touch wiring it,dizzy. Thus has got me beat.

Tips it advice please.

I changed ignition leads and alternator before all this and car started ok. Was a but hard to start as Carby bowl would never fill to the dot of the inspection panel.

If you had the engine running with the original carburetor, I would put that back on. Then get the fuel bowl filled. A 'stuffed carb' doesn't cause an empty fuel bowl -- there's nothing in the carb that can cause that except for a clogged inlet filter (right where the fuel line enters the carburetor).

Nah the carb was shot. Bowl wouldn't fill even with adjustment and accelerator pump leaky.
It did same with the original carb before I changed it.

I don't think that bolt that fell through did any damage. Hope it didn't knock out the chain tensioner. It was still tight. So unlikely its skipped a tooth timing wise

It was "shot" but still started and ran the engine. Now the carb you fitted won't do either?

Time to start basic troubleshooting.
* Fuel? carb bowl non-empty? Accelerator pump working?
* Air? Filter good? No air leaks?
* Spark? Test it while cranking.

Im thinking spark. Definitely fuel

Old carb did the same thing dd.
It started 2 days ago, didn't yesterday. It smoked out of carb. So I swapped carb and same thing but this has a full fuel bowl at least

Check points gap, firing order and timing.

Check vacuum leaks

Do skids

So it did start and run and then wouldn't run any more. No spark?

So I changed dizzy and coil, still no spark. I've spent all night with a multi meter, test light and no luck.

But I know there's some thing not right wiring wise.

Horn doesn't work even tried the stock steering when, nothing. Hit the horn with direct power, toot!
Same with heater.
Fuel gauge I checked the wiring all good, could be a bad voltage regulator in the dash.

So I'm thinking of manually wiring the heater and the horn via fuses and relays to remote buttons on dash. Apparently that's legal.

As for fuel gauge, ?

But more importantly I need spark!

This is why it pays never to make assumptions. Instead, diagnose though testing.

If the plugs are fouled, and it started and ran for a bit then won't start again, now it would be prudent to clean or replace the spark plugs.

Other than that, test the spark. Do you get a big fat blue spark while cranking the engine? If so, you are getting spark and can rule that out as being the cause of the starting problem.

Sorry I forgot to mention I replaced plugs. Also it did get spark. That's why I swapped to elec dizzy and coil. Thinking get bigger spark to tune with.

I removed the voltage resistor as its series 2 blue bird one. I just bridges the 2 connections
